Jackett wants to use everyone ahead of League One kick-off

Kenny Jackett will give as many of his squad game time between now and the start of the season as the Blues negotiate some challenging pre-season friendlies.

They go to Swindon on Saturday, play a Brighton XI on Tuesday then host FC Utrecht at Fratton next Saturday - before they begin their League One campaign at home to Luton a week later.

Jackett told the Pompey website: 'We have three first team friendlies remaining — against Swindon, then behind-closed-doors at Brighton on Tuesday and then Utrecht at Fratton Park the following Saturday. I’m looking forward to all three games and we’ll be aiming to perform as well as possible in each of them.

'We’ll be giving all of our squad minutes on the pitch during that period as we build up to that Luton match. If we were going to Swindon in the early rounds of the cup then we know it would be a tough game — and this will be no different.'

Jackett will be without midfielder Ben Close and defender Dion Donohue at Swindon, with the latter's absence looking longer-term than Close's as he has suspected glandular fever.
