Who can share scoring duties as Pompey head to Blackpool?
Friday, 10th Aug 2018 21:55 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey want goals from Brett Pitman this season - of course.

But as they head to Blackpool for their first away League One game of the new season, the rest of the team are being challenged to score their share too.

Pitman scored 25 last season, way ahead of the next top scorer. And boss Kenny Jackett s hoping for a decent spread this term.

He told the Pompey website: 'Brett’s contribution has been excellent and we’ve brought guys in this season who can help with that. We want to see those goals spread around a little bit more and also coming from other areas of the pitch.'

Skipper Pitman is set to lead the line at Blackpool - where he scored twice last season - and is likely to have winger David Wheeler making his debut and hopefully supplying some ammunition.

Wheeler arrived on loan from QPR in the week and seems likely to go straight into the side, but one player who is set to miss out is full-back Nathan Thompson, who jarred his knee against Luton.

Jackett said there was no major damage to the knee but indicated that this weekend could come too soon for him.

The Blues will be facing a team without a manager after Gary Bowyer's resignation. Assistant Terry McPhillips will be in charge.
