Curtis is main man as Pompey win at Blackpool

Ronan Curtis's double made it two wins from two for Pompey and put them in fifth place in the albeit-early League One table.

The recruit from Derry City scored in each half to put Pompey on their way to victory, although Mark Cullen pulled one back and had one disallowed as the Seasiders fought back.

Brett Pitman was left on the bench as Ben Close and Oli Hawkins came in for starts in a line-up that surprised many in blue.

For Blackpool Joe Dodoo hit the post and then Nathan Delfouneso brought a good defensive block from Matt Clarke.

Pompey drew first blood on nine minutes when Curtis ran on to a Hawkins flick-on and score with a well-struck shot that was too much for keeper Mark Howard.

Curtis had two half-chances to double Pompey's tally, and his, beofre the break, while Hawkins twice tested Howard.

Blues keeper Craig MacGillivray was only called into action a couple of times and Pompey were well worth their interval lead.

Blackpool threatened Pompey with more regularity after the break but the Blues soon doubled their lead with a goal similar to their first.

Another long ball from the back was headed on by Hawkins and Curtis ran on to it, controlled it and fired a nice finish across Howard and in.

Danny Rose and David Wheeler were introduced - Rose for his first game since breaking his leg in the last game of 2017 and Wheeler for his Pompey debut after joining on loan from QPR.

Blackpool got one back on 81 minutes when Cullen finished well. Cullen thought he had earned Terry McPhillips' side an unlikely point when he netted again, but it was ruled out by the linesman, and that was the hosts' last chance.
