There to be shot at - but Pompey aim to fire first
Friday, 21st Sep 2018 22:49 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey are top of League One - and that makes them targets.

They'll know only too well as they welcome Wycombe to Fratton Park that everyone likes to beat the top dogs.

Kenny Jackett has said he is not bothered by the Blues' position at this stage of things, only by the number of points they are accruing.

And they will be after three more against Gareth Ainsworth's newly promoted side.

The boss has great respect for his opposite number, telling the club website: 'Gareth’s is a manager who I have a lot of respect for and they’re coming off the back of a promotion season.

'They’ve attacked this division with plenty of enthusiasm and we’ll have to work hard to get something from the game. But we don’t focus too much on the opposition. We’re at a home and want to capitalise on having a large crowd backing us.'

Pompey will be knocked off the top if they slip up and Peterborough do well at Gillingham, although the Blues do have a five-point cushion between themselves and third-placed Barnsley.

Ronan Curtis, Anton Walkes and Jack Whatmough could all feature after missing the win at Posh last week.
