Debut making pair Haji Mnoga and Louis Dennis drew praise from Kenny Jackett after helping Pompey qualify for the next stage of the Checkatrade Trophy with a win t Crawley.

Mnoga, who is just 16, got a surprise call up for the trip to West Sussex and Dennis was also delighted to be involved after a long wait for his first competitive start.

Dion Donohue's goal earned a 1-0 win that means Pompey get out of the group with one game to spare.

Blues boss Jackett said: 'Haji did okay and has shown a lot of promise, but he needs to keep his feet on the floor and continue to work hard. It’s just been a taste of it for him — that’s all. He hasn’t got anywhere yet and it’s the start of a long journey for him in terms of establishing himself as a Pompey player.

'Louis worked really hard and showed some good touches — it’s just a shame we couldn’t get the ball to him more often in and around the box.'

Jackett was delighted by another away win, saying: 'I’m pleased to be through with one group game at home to Spurs still to play. It was a much-changed side for both teams — we only kept two starters from Saturday and they had one.

'But we wanted to bounce back after a disappointing loss and get back to winning ways ahead of a big game at Wimbledon.'
