What constitutes a big game at Pompey? Interesting question...
Monday, 10th Dec 2018 21:22 by pompey-fans.com staff

It's a big game - but no bigger than the last one.

The league table shows Charlton are seventh and Southend 15th, and many will say that makes Tuesday night's visit of the Addicks a much more important game than Saturday's win over the Essex seasiders.

Kenny Jackett thinks otherwise: 'They’re all big and I don’t think that Charlton is any more important than Southend was on Saturday. But we’ve got Barnsley and Sunderland coming up after that and they are great games for the players to look forward to,' he told the Pompey website as he prepared his squad for the game.

'And that’s also true for the supporters because they’re against the sides currently around us in the table. You look at Charlton and they’re a genuinely big club with a very rich history — they were recently in the Premier League.

'They were play-off semi-finalists last season, so I’m sure will be looking to do better this time and get themselves back up. So it’s one we’re looking forward to, but we also realise that it’s going to be difficult and we’ll have to work to get anything out of it.

'It shows you the strength of League One when sides like us are battling it out in the top six of the table.'

The Blues have no new injury worries for a game that could see them go nine points clear at the top - or could end in Charlton moving fifth.
