Buying tickets for Pompey away games will be less of a lottery

Pompey chiefs are taking away the element of luck involved in fans getting tickets for away games where there is high demand.

Season ticket holders will now accrue points for buying tickets for away game and the system will be used for judging who should get prominence if tickets for some games sell out.

A statement on the club website explained the thinking behind the move: 'The decision to introduce this scheme — which is for home season ticket holders only — was taken following consultation with the Tony Goodall Fans’ Conference and is due to the high demand for away tickets in recent seasons.

'It will be used only for games where demand is expected to exceed supply and means there will no longer be the need for any ticket ballots. A loyalty system has been a frequent request from fans and the club believe it will help provide transparency and consistency in the allocation of tickets.

'Supporters will be awarded one point when they buy a ticket for any away match or a cup fixture at Fratton Park. The club will announce in advance of a fixture if the loyalty points system is going to be used.

'Fans can still guarantee a ticket for every league match on the road by securing an away season ticket.

'Loyalty points will be awarded per game rather than per ticket, so if you purchase four tickets for one fixture, you will only be allocated one point. If supporters are purchasing tickets on behalf of another home season ticket holder, you will need their Client ID Number to ensure points are correctly allocated.

'Points can be allocated only for tickets bought directly from Pompey and points are not awarded for friendly fixtures. Points are accrued only for tickets bought during the current and one previous season (ie, 2019/20 and 2018/19 season).'
