Naylor and Brown given Pompey roles - but what now for Pitman and Evans?
Saturday, 7th Sep 2019 10:47 by pompey-fans.com staff

Tom Naylor is Pompey's new captain and Lee Brown is his deputy - but good news for two players means bad tidings for two others.

Brett Pitman has had the captaincy taken away from him and Gareth Evans has had the vice-captaincy taken away - prompting questions about whether either player has a future at Fratton.

The News has reported that Kenny Jackett informed the squad of the changes on Monday before the Football League Trophy win over Crawley.

Naylor started as captain against Crawley, with Evans also in the starting line-up and Pitman on the bench.

Pitman had been captain since arriving at Fratton in 2017.

The News said Naylor would be a popular choice among the players, and described Brown - currently out injured - as one of the club’s biggest characters.

Fans will be wondering whether the changes are a sign Jackett has lost the faith of some of his players, or is merely an attempt to inject new unity into the team and kick-start the season, which has started sluggishly.
