Could Pompey be forced to introduce a salary cap? Wednesday, 20th May 2020 22:25 by pompey-fans.com staff Pompey and all their League One and League Two counterparts may be forced to introduce a salary cap. The idea is reportedly being put forward by the EFL as football tries to work out a way through the lockdown and the severe financial effect it has had on clubs. League One sides would be given a £2.5m ceiling for salaries, while the sum would be £1.25m for the fourth tier, according to a report in the Telegraph, who said clubs would get points deductions if players were not paid on time. The EFL hopes to introduce the cap for the 2020-21 season. The introduction of maximum 20-man squads is another move being suggested. The ideas come as League One clubs continue to debate whether they can finish the season, with Pompey among those lobbying for it to be completed rather than scrapped. As things stand, clubs seem no closer agreement on what to do.
