The new face in the Pompey side who's just living the moment
Saturday, 3rd Dec 2022 15:36 by pompey-fans.com staff

Jay Mingi has been showcasing his talents to crowds at Fratton Park and away from home in recent weeks - but on Sunday he hopes for the chance to show a TV audience what he can do.

Mingi has forced his way into Pompey's midfield - and made himself difficult to leave out - with some dynamic performances alongside Ryan Tunnicliffe and more recently Marlon Pack.

With the midfield ranks still injury-hit, Mingi is set for another start when the Blues go to Wycombe on Sunday for a Sky-televised showdown with Gareth Ainsworth's team.

Mingi said he had not really believed he'd get some many minutes this soon but was ready and was relishing it.

Pompey head to Adams Park without a league win since the 1-0 success at Forest Green on October 22, though with plenty of draws in the period since.

He told the club website: 'I wasn’t really expecting it, but the gaffer has always told me to be ready for the opportunity. The body has been getting used to it, although it’s normal to feel a bit fatigued in these situations and the more I play, the better I feel.

'The schedule has been relentless and so you have to make sure you’re doing all the right things on off days. You need to go to the pool, do recovery work, eat healthily and sleep, but I’ve enjoyed it because it’s what I’ve worked so hard for.

'I’m just living the moment. After getting through the trials and tribulations, I’m thankful to be where I am. Everyone in this squad gets on so well and it meant that stepping into the team was a much easier thing.

'There’s healthy competition in this squad and it’s beneficial because it means you’ve got to keep your standards high. We’ll go to Wycombe on Sunday and know what to expect from them. We have to make sure that we’re ready.'
