Wow. Amazing first half hour. We were really good and Villa were awful. We deserved to be 2 nil up.

Then Villa started to up their game and from that minute the game changed and it was all Villa for the next 50 mins.

The 'luck' was with us tonight and at other times we would have conceded a couple of penalites and a shed full of goals. Villa will feel they were very unlucky not to win this game.

I though Taiwo had a very nervous game and he gave the ball away often. Mind you many players gave the ball back to Villa far too easily. In fact the game was very similar to the one against Chelsea. Villa had almost 70% possession and we simply kept giving them the ball. We must keep possession.

We looked tougher, fitter and more dangerous - especially in the first 30 mins. Its looking much better than just 2 weeks ago.

But this was 2 points lost and not 1 gained. We could have and should have, won. Still a point is a point and a valuable one at that.

Based on this performance and the players who will be back/available, I am expecting a thumping win on Saturday against Wolves

The green shoots of recovery have sprung!

Whilst I would have settled for a point before the game, going 2-0 up makes the draw disappointing & I can't help thinking we should have got more than the 2 points from both games against them this season.

surely a good point? despite being 2up away..before ko we'd have taken a pt and got one...poor ref didn't help either. sitting back and letting them come on in the 2nd half probably helped them but if mackie scores for 3-1, job done.....

Agree with 'themodfather'. If Mackie scores the easiest of chances he had to make it 3-1, I'm fairly certain we would have seen the game out fairly comfortably.
Was very disappointed when arriving at Villa Park to find out Hulse was starting but he didn't do too badly. Overall, I was fairly pleased and I think we'd all agree a point away at Villa is not a bad result at all.
The most pleasing thing for me was that when watching us play I couldn't help but think that the only missing ingredient was Zamora. With him starting (hopefully against Wolves on Saturday), I think he will link up very nicely with Cisse, who played very well last night but unfortunately was lacking decent service. Zamora can hold the ball up very well and more importantly keep hold of it and distribute it effectively, which I think is the main thing missing with Rangers at the moment. Don't know how many times I shouted "keep hold of the ball" last night but I think this problem should be eased with the arrival of Zamora, and also the return of Tarbs. Can't help but think that if Faurlin wasn't injured though that we would be much better in possession. Still, it will be like getting a brand new player when he comes back for next season.
