Yes, mental. Apart from one player he never had a proper pre-season to reshape a team. Ludicrous.

Never knowingly right.

Moyes took over a club that was used to success year in, year out. Ferguson didn't.

Yes, Ferguson created that succes (nearly getting sacked en route circa 1990) but it left an impossible task for whoever took over.

Thing is the Man utd franchise is soley based on money now, the debt they carry cant accomodate failure, so time is not option these days.

"Stan work hard, could score goals in the air, and was complete team player. He headed balls off the line, and he had so much skill, balance, finesse and amazing touch. His mobility, that electrifying burst of 30 yards was exciting to watch"...Don Shanks.

I too rejoice in their new found mediocrity. Never have I met a set of fans so deluded by their club's success that they truly believe it somehow reflects upon themselves personally. Tits. I rejoice also in their cherished and expensively nurtured Asian markets showing their true colours and flipping on a sixpence to new allegiances, wearing all-red or sky blue. On the subject of Moyes I would say that it's not simply about giving someone time. They have to demonstrate that they appear to know what they're doing and that they have a vision. Rodgers was able to do this last year - his vision, though not fully realised, was at least possible to see in evidence on the pitch. I suspect that on working with Moyes at close quarters, the regrettable conclusions were that he was out-of-mode with the tactical nuances of the times, out of sync with modern coaching and lacking in the gravitas needed for the over-weened prima-donnas on their books. That he was bought as much time as he got was simply because he was Fergie's choice - haplessly they still thought he might come good.

Kind of a misleading stat considering how many games they play now.

He had plenty of time. I guarantee that pretty much anyone of us could go in there and pick a team, and do no worse. Shocking season.

Why does it matter how many games they played then and how many they play now ?

Because sides like Man Utd, Chelsea generally have much better squads and you'd expect them to win a higher percentage of games than teams like us.

There is a difference if for example one manager was in charge for 60 games and won 15 then the actual win percentage is different to a manager who won 15 games but was only in charge for 45.

Moyes was dreadful. Apart from a lucky 1 nil against Arsenal, they got beaten by pretty much every decent team they played.

The stat is regarding the 1st 31 games each manager was in charge of Manchester United and how many games their team won in those 31 games.

THE FIRST THIRTY ONE, regardless of how many games there was in a season or how long they managed Man U.

Thing is, those managers weren't presiding over a club with a debt bigger than the GDP of a reasonably sized country. Failure isn't an option when the Glazers' whole business plan is based on using the success of the club to service the debt and line their own pockets

he took over the champions, spent 60 million quid and has finished 7th, he had to go. I like Moyes but he's done a dreadful job at United all starting from delaying his start date to July rather than getting in early and getting in who he wanted.

For Brendan Rogers last season it was 13. Look what he's achieved now.

Like Ferguson, Rodgers took the helm of a team that hasn't won the title for many years. Moyes took on a club used to success and with high expectations.

I think the Man U board would have tolerated a top 4 finish in Moyes' first season. Finishing 7th and losing a fair chunk of home games was just not in the script.

That said, the Man U board need to take a long, hard look at themselves for allowing Ferguson to choose a successor. As TF has learnt, it is important for the club to interview candidates.

The top teams win a bigger percentage of games than they used to, since they have almost all the best players so you can't really compare his stats to old Man Utd managers.

Plus they walked the league last year. There's no doubt if Ferguson had stayed one more year that they'd have done better than 7th this year.

People have long tended to invoke Ferguson as what can happen if managers are given time without appreciating just how rare that example is. Most of the time if it doesn't look like it's working in any way then it really isn't . Rodgers didn't tear up trees in his first season but the green shoots of progress and and planning were still there to see - it was never blind faith in a lost cause.

Best thing Flavio ever did with us was getting shot of Paul Hart immediately after realising what he was about. No amount of patience was ever going to bring success there and we all knew it from the first game (if not before...)

No he wasn't. Ferguson scared the crap out of his players and demanded respect. Soon as he left i think the players acted like when the supply teacher came in.
He had an impossible job.

In days gone by Manchester United wasn't a global business with international shareholders. These days any under-performing assets must be quickly jettisoned.

At least we will be spared any further lectures about how Manchester United's greatness is based on sticking by managers.

'The Chosen One' David Moyes banner has been removed by Manchester United, so it looks like complete demoyesification is beginning.
