DARREN LEWIS'S VIEW ON STEVEN CAULKER’S ARRIVAL AT QPR 12:16 - Jul 24 with 2053 viewsJonDoeman

"Steven Caulker is a fantastic signing for the club.

Going to QPR will really help him to develop because I believe he is someone who thrives on regular first-team football. He needs to continue to establish himself as a Premier League defender, and to do that he has got to play regularly.

He is young, hungry and capable. And when you look at Harry, there really isn’t anyone better at getting players to fulfil their potential.

QPR are very fortunate to have Harry as their manager. Like Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, Harry is very-much an attraction for players because they want to work with him, they know what he’s achieved in the Premier League.

They will have seen what he did at Spurs, and how he helped to inspire players like Rio Ferdinand when he was at West Ham.

And with Rio at Loftus Road, Steven will thrive alongside him. Rio has the vision, the experience and the leadership to get the best out of those around him.

Rio has won everything there is to win in the domestic game and he’s played at major tournaments for England as well. He’s got that experience that you can’t really buy. He will know how to cope when the going gets tough, he will know all about Harry’s methods and I think he will be fantastic not only for Steven, but also for the team as a whole.

Let’s not forget he captained Manchester United when they won the Champions League in 2008 so he will come to the club and be able to inspire those around him. In terms of organisation, he will be great for Steven and QPR's defence.

I am far more optimistic this time about QPR surviving than I was when they were last in the Premier League. Right from the outset last time, there were players coming to the club that were raising eyebrows everywhere. From the outside, it certainly looked as though it was just an opportunity for some of those players to get one last big payday.

In some respects, what happened at the time was possibly the best thing to happen to the club. They needed to learn from that negative experience of having players who were just there for the money, and not committed.

It showed throughout the 2012/13 season. Fortunately from a media point-of-view there were players who spoke to us regularly whose commitment always shone through, not least the likes of Clint Hill.

But yes, QPR needed to go through that process of purging the club of the players who were either not good enough or whose commitment wasn’t total, and begin again.

Now the club appear to be targeting players’ motivation as part of the recruitment process rather than just thinking, ‘This is a good player, it would be great to get him’.

These are exciting times for QPR."

I thought the correct position was believe everything in the media about QPR if it is bad and do not believe anything that is good.
