Bottom line is that we need a striker, the most vital position in the team. I always knew that Remy staying was a long shot however, I never thought that we wouldn't replace him. This is down to having a non existent scouting system and a lack of planning. You can dress it up as much as you like, not finding a suitable replacement for Remy has made survival a more difficult task. In relation to signing Defoe in January, I hope we will look at other options because whilst I would of gladly taken him last night, I fully expect the club to from now until January to search for a younger more affordable choice. This attitude of 'we'll just go back for him in January' is a dangerous strategy. What if he's injured, what if a bigger club comes in for him?

Why do you always have to over exaggerate our situation

If the strikers get injured or suspended how about we coach youth team players and give them a chance, they may not be good enough but one day we have to realise another signing isn't always the answer

If you look at his record Phillips was a Championship specialist, his goalscoring record is skewed by it. His last half-decent scoring in the PL was at Southampton in '03 where they ended up finishing bottom. My point is that expecting an ageing Defoe to hit the ground running and save us in February is a crazy situation to be in when we should have planned better and got a younger guy in this summer. And then Defoe is suddenly 33, 34, is that really what we want to take the club forward? Your mate Harry and the board did really well reshaping the rest of the squad and it's been exciting to see, but with regard to the strikers it's an undoubted balls up.

another top post jamois...

yet again QPR on deadline day evening and running around like a shower of TOWIE cu nts in a paul smith/ted baker shop with their grubby money to fling at something overpriced, tastless and ultimately shit (yet again).

all the planning and foresight of a grimsby brass on the backshift using the slapping prick method of contraception with a line up of fisherman with balls the size of space hoppers who have been at sea for 6 weeks making do with shagging a toothless halibut nailed to the fuc king mast.

might as well go out and buy steve strange if the masterplan for world domination is to sign borini , defoe and lord foppington as remys replacement and utterly predictable 11th hour departure.

Who is going to coach them? Spurs held onto their coaches when Arry left.

We have a very talented young winger and a very experienced young centre back, both of whom would've been given a chance at most other clubs.

Just plain funny. Steve Strange at least hit the back of the net once, he might have been the right sort.

Yes, we did but we also needed to send out a message which said "only come here if you want to play for the hoops and not for money"

Borini at £10m plus £90k a week would have set this board into orbit.

Who knows with money Sigthorsson wanted to join.

Personally I would have had Doyle back for 6 months on loan.

We didnt rush it, havent spent silly money and have 3 strikers in Austin, Vargas and Zamora plus Phillips, Hoillet,, Niko and Adel who can play up front if we get really stuck.

I don't know much about Vargas, maybe he'll be the answer. Fingers crossed him and Charlie will be enough.

Let's be realistic, though. If we now play, as it seems, with a lone striker, it couldn't possibly be Phillips, Hoilett, Niko or Adel.

Helluva risk. We all knew Remy would be gone. And why sell Simpson? Incomprehensible that one. Almost Taore as well. Strange.

I like all of our signings, but i just can't figure out the lack of a striker / full backs.

Really pleased with the signings made this summer and the Sandro signing is probably one of the best ones.

Pleased we didn't cave in to Bornin's demands.....Squad looks a lot better but I'm slightly confused.

Couple of weeks ago - it was touted by harry that we were still a couple of signings short. We then lost Ali-Remy and Danny.

Think we have a good good compliment of midfielders and if Isla gets crocked, I suppose either Ned or maybe Harriman can be used..But like most - my concern is the lack of strikers.

It nearly cost us last season and could be even more costly this season.Hints that maybe Adel may play up front, but this does put an lot of pressure on Charlie.

Having said that, the squad looks a lot better than the last time we started our premiership campaign and I cannot believe the amount of Spud fans that have already contacted about how much they rate Sandro .

Even if we still had Remy, I don't think that he'd have been ideal had both Charlie and Bobby got injured. He doesn't look much like a lone striker to me.

If we play with two up then it was always going to be Charlie or Bobby plus one, and we probably have enough 'plus ones' even without Remy. It's the other striker which might be a problem if injuries go against us.

If a club is going to employ a strategy of having quality players on lower wages then it's paramount that the club has an excellent scouting system and training facilities/academy.

Erm...we're QPR. We just got promoted by the skin of our teeth and are probably in everyone's top 6 candidates to get relegated (third favourites at the bookies). We have a small, ageing stadium and sub-Premier League standard facilities. We're not an especially attractive club for players and striker is the most in demand position. It's no surprise that Borini took the plumber's option - if you don't want the job, quote high.

Bottom line, we've done better since May 24th than I'd hoped. But then my expectations are tempered by the above.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Hoddle, Furlong, Gallen all at the club and plenty of others.

I'm sorry but Ehmer and Petresso would not get a chance at other Premier League clubs, that's pure fantasy. Possibly in the championship they would which is where they will probably go on loan

Certainly an interesting opinion, as only Stoke have less PL appearances by a homegrown player in the squad, our only appearances being Harrimans 2

A lack of planning and having a crap scouting network will always lead to us chasing players like Borini. Why not find out in advance what his weekly wage demands are before wasting hours trying to convince him to accept 30k less? Why not ask the Moscow club the status of Diarra's contract before wasting time on him and then missing out on Diame?

Sunderland have been chasing him for ages and also failed to get a deal over the line.

Thinks this tells us more about Mr Borini and his agent than it does about our supposed shortcomings.

Always thought Remy was an extravagance in any case. Ocassionally for Rangers got a good goal but did little for the team in holding the ball up etc. Will not miss him or the constant speculation. He was one of the first one's off when we got relegated and to have all that Champion's league stuff in his contract makes you wonder if he over-rates himself (probably all his agent!) He will enjoy sitting on the bench all season.

I think we will be ok with Austin fit and Vargas as long as he can afford a winger hoilett or phillips in the team which will mean only 1 central forward in the side - we already have Fer Barton Sandros as automatic starters - then we have Mutch (lots dont rate him but I thought he was a lot better v Sunderland) who could play up-front. Lots of options - happy days

We could have found out that he was a money grabbing bastard in 5mins and swiftly moved on to someone else, not spend half the night trying to convince him to accept less than what he wanted. We should have never been in this position in the first place, it's as if the board genuinely believed that Remy was staying. All that nonsense about him being a good lad and he wouldn't run out on us at the last minute - bull.

It's a shame because we have brought some really good signing, not signing a striker has really screwed us up. If we had replaced Remy we would be staying up no problem, now we are going to have to sweat out every game until January.

It would seem the panic button is being hit once again. If we go with 1 up front through the middle then we have 3 to choose from, same as Chelsea for example. you can question those 3 as much as you want but numbers wise it's enough for a club of our size. Ideally we should have a few youngsters on the fringe of the 1st team also but not sure that is the case, however by not bringing in another expensive average player it gives them a little more hope.

We only have league games to contend with and if injuries occur then we have plenty of attacking midfielder's who can play further forward if it becomes absolutely necessary. Vargas plays through the middle or wide and although nothing like Austin, Taarabt may prove useful now (when fit).

The squad looks very good and now its time for them to continue to gel and settle down and we try and develop from within and add the odd player as we go. Forgetting the last time we came up this is a very good squad for a side promoted via the play-off's.

when it comes to deadline day we aren't the only side scrambling around and it's refreshing that we didn't just sign the Maiga and Keane types as I bet the options were there.

Agree the scouting system requires rapid improvement but we seem to have a number of projects on the go without actually going anywhere.

Anyway, I'm feeling positive about the team for what its worth.

His record says that over the two season when he was the same age as Defoe is now , Phillips scored 22 in 68 in the Premier League.

And Jamie if you are going to dis penaltys as not relevant , try taking them of the stats of say Kevin Gallen , Gerrard or Lampard.

I don't often find myself agreeing with SoG but in this case I'm left with little doubt that on the striker front we have suffered from poor planning and management of the situation. It's not the ins and outs of deadline day and this or that deal falling through - it's the fact that a striker should have been acquired weeks ago, or at the very least a planned and prioritised series of targets. And anyone that thinks a 32yr old Defoe in January is the answer is deluded I'm afraid.

What about Arsenal ? How did they come to be in a situation where if Giroud got injured they would have to hijack the Remy deal at the last minute . And then ask for an extension to get Wellbeck signed .

Why didnt they sign one of their planned and prioritised targets . Have they no scouting system ?, Why cant they coach one of their Elite young players to step up ?

Champions League , 65k gates ,FA Cup holders and wealthy owners . and they end up in the same boat as lil ole QPR .,

Maybe its not so easy

I think we look well set. We're one striker short, but I'm pleased we walked away from deals rather than panicking and overpaying. It sends out a strong message that we're not going to do that any more, which will stand us in good stead on future deadline days.
Well done QPR, a really good transfer window.
