Back in the days before Cbeebies etc in the 70s, the only morning kids tv I can remember was the stuff they put on in the mornings during the summer holidays.

There was the Banana bunch, Arabian knights, Flash Gordon, but the one I want to get the name of was a black and white series that I think was in French but dubbed in English. It looked pretty old (50/60s) and the main character was a small boy called Sebastian.

Can anyone remember the name of this series. I loved it and I've been trying to remember its name for ages. Cheers.

I used to love the Water Margin - everyone seems to remember Monkey instead which I never watched. We also used to watch Kung Fu - not a lot happened but we all used to sit in silence watching it

In Ireland we were force-fed American 'shows'.

My favourites (well, I say favourites but really they were the only ones on) were:-

Man From Atlantis
Alias Smith and Jones
Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea

and they were all on Saturday morning.

Kids TV was non-existent as far as I can remember.

Ditto, Scotty.

Weird thing is, my kids [aged 11 and 13] get references to "Grasshopper"even though it's not been on TV for years. For some reason I find that heartening

Casey Jones and Champion The Wonder Horse anyone. The latter with the theme tune by the great Frankie Laine, a favourite of the old man. Both series were both pre 70s but I remember them clearly as school holiday programmes.

Remember Banana Splits, also Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. Also Tin Tin and Flash Gordon.

Feeling Nostalgic. I'd post a clip of The Champion theme song if I knew how (must work it out one day)....

I couldn't stand "why don't you". I just wanted to play football. Not make a car out of a toilet roll and cornflake box.

Ha yeh it was sh*t but the theme tune reminds of kids tv in the holidays.

There was some great cartoons back then.

There was a football programme in the 70's that ran for a couple of years, obviously filmed pre-season involving professional clubs with players from each side having to do a series of different skills. It was all shot at Ashton Gate and I have a funny feeling it was called We Are The Champions

Just looked it up and it was called All In The Game and was a bit like a football It's A Knockout.

Surprisingly no mention of the following three childrens tv classics from the late 70's;

Easy viewing;

Heartwarming;

Classic. Ironic that Aunt Sally was made of wood;

Rentaghost was for me the worst of all kids programmes, even at the age of 12 I could tell how shït was the acting and as far as the storylines I think I wrote better during school essay time as a seven year old.

Seems everybody has forgotten that Grange Hill started in the 70's with Tucker Jenkins, Trish Yates et al.

My wife and I quite often do a duet of The littlest Hobo theme — blinding it is — we’ve added in a few improvised bits over the years too. Had half the bar singing it out in Krakow when we played out there — good times.

Flashing Blade — loved it then and liked to sing along to the opening, but suspect it might actually have been a bit sh it?

Why Don’t You? was a classic case of watching the telly for the sake of watching it. If we’d had more than three channels to choose from and turning over hadn’t involved a war of attrition between me and my brothers — none of us being arsed to walk six feet across the front room to turn the telly over — I’d never have watched it. I think it was meant to be spread around the UK, but in my head, the kids on it were nearly always from Northern Ireland — is that a fair observation?

The Flashing Blade - Clive Walker's hero.

Strange the way no children's TV was made between 1968 and 1980, and we had to watch the same things over and over. Like the Double Deckers, with Brinsley Forde out of Aswad as a ten-year-old.

The theme music was great for all these programmes, much more memorable than the shows. I used to turn on for the beginning and end of Daktari, just to sing along with Daktareeee, Daktareeee, Daktareeee, Daktareeee, Daktari! but I don't recall ever watching it all the way through.

Yes indeed. Used to sing the theme tune to my kids as a lullaby when they were tiny.

In fact at that age they got exposed to some of this stuff on DVD and good ol' VCR - The Clangers, Bagpuss, Mr Benn, The Double Deckers [never knew the kid went on to be in Aswad btw, great bit of trivia] and loved them. For two days after my wife died they watched Mr Benn on continuous loop, as if it was the only thing they could cope with.

"The Flashing Blade - Clive Walker's hero."

I can't think of Bristol City or Rovers without a soundtrack of “Walker is a pervert” in the world’s thickest West Country accent. They used to give him pelters.

Theme tunes all sung by Jackie Lee.

Talking of the original Rupert Bear show, what the f*ck was that Raggetty thing? That was enough to scare any kid to death. Him and Mr Grimnasty.

Does anyone remember the motorbike show for kids, it seemed all the kids were called Lee or Scott and the presenter/ professional was Doug Lampkin or something like that.

Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea was my favorite and Flash Gordon (Larry Buster Crabbe)
