Stag Do's - LFW Travel Advice Club 22:32 - Oct 28 with 12609 viewsLblock

Gentlemen.... After my own personal Annulus Horriblus, I am looking forward to hopefully a year to remember next year. So thoughts now turn to where to go for a stag do as I've decided to take the plunge.

Early in October I attended a work colleagues do which was in Budapest for a 4 day beano. I had my reservations as it came hot on the heels of health issues and I knew I couldn't be on it all the time plus we were a mob of 16 with the majority being far younger than 3 of us (and I only knew 5 of the gang). Also the best man being of the younger ilk had sorted the accommodation and the whole package price was £180 a man so I knew it would be a hostel
I was very pleasantly surprised with the flight with Ryan Air bearable, the accommodation okay and the young lads a cracking bunch. But most of all I was impressed with Budapest which is dirt cheap, very lively and with other distractions such as Szrelemy Baths for a good day out rather than staying in an Irish bar all day on the lash

So I've the taste for Eastern Europe and would go back to Budda but rather try somewhere different. This one will be majority of lads in their 40's, probably about 20 handed, and im looking for a gaff cheap, safe, good laugh with daytime distractions. The filth and seedy sides aren't a must have!!!
Probably a long weekend in February or March

Ideas and info very much welcomed

So far list of options thus:-
Blackpool - for old times sake
Vegas - too pricey but a splinter group may do this
Ibiza - out of season. No dice
Berlin - already done it
Kraków - most of my lot been before
Any "England based activity day" - shove that!!! I'll leave the paint balling to the loony training camps

So what say the educated LFW massive?

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Porto. Great city, nice and cheap, lively nightlife without being over the top, port tasting etc. Perfect stag location but don't find too many other stag groups. Otherwise, Brussels. Went there on a cricket tour and was a surprisingly good evening/nighttime scene but again without being Stag Central.

Hamburg's better - IMO

Just back from Ljubljana which was amazing - bars all along the river - day trips to lake Bled and cave systems.

But you could really pick anywhere from Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Prague etc

A few of us mainly Rangers went to Ghent in Belgium. I was well impressed. (There ) loads of good bars/pubs with all the Belgium beers and it seemed really cheap. Also there into there house music (Used to have 10 days of techno there) and we found couple of good clubs playing house/tech house where it was proper going off. Many of the same lot went to Antwerp a few years earlier and that was similarly good.

Otherwise Germany as a couple of others have said, maybe Aachan/Cologne or Düsseldorf - get on the Alt beers.

Brugge- great bars and beers and can easily jump on the Eurostar

Hamburg - the Reipbarn has all you can want & more, I think Hamburg as one of the biggest Brothels in Europe
Also Dusseldorf has some great bars

Would give Amsterdam a swerve its a sh*t Hole now , went to Eindhoven a few years back was very impressed with the bars in Stramsuziend a bit studenty but loads of choice and we also took in a game at PSV,
people also say Groningen is worth a visit

if your looking at Eastern Europe- Riga is quite good, some good clubs and the local Muff is very tempting

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I go to Porto every year for Primavera festival. One of my favourite cities in the entire world.

Ate in a restaurant where a mates coke was more expensive than my fino of Super Bock

Gemany wise, I went to a stag in Stuttgart and it was ruddy excellent. Went to a beer festival that was actually full of Germans and got hammered both nights.

Then on the Sunday there's a mineral bath for relaxing with outdoor heated pools, salt baths. Made the flight hom much more bearable.

Did one in Barcelona - was great craic but it cost an absolute fortune, way more on the times I've been to festivals in the city. Plus prostitutes every where trying to mug you

Love Bruges - Bertie's, The Garre , L'Estaminet, Vlissinghe etc but I've never really thought it that great for nightlife other than the bars/pubs -and to be fair that's good enough for an old git like me. Ghent, on the other hand, has a great city centre and seems more obviously a student town with more going on later at night - not to mention the best beers in the world.

Organised a trip to Vegas 2 years ago - went early Feb 6 nights in New York New York and return flights for £479. Its fairly cheap when you get there as long as you dont try and behave like a high roller!! Got upto all sorts as well as drinking. Some joined a Poker tournemont , me and another went round the Nascar track at full pelt, took in Hoover Dam, saw UB40 at Planet Hollywood, did the rude Cirque Du Soleil, won some money and lost some money in the casinos, some did the Grand Canyon, some played golf. We were going to the Rugby Sevens world series but by the Sunday we were all shattered!! No one spent more than a grand all up!! Just need to do the research!

Already mentioned but Riga and the Altstadt in Düsseldorf are worth a look.

Current location: OX10

Cheers Gents.

Riga was one of the places I had considered all be it briefly - will research that.
Also wondered if anyone had any experience of Talin or Bratislavia?

Vegas is my number one choice but it's just the schekals for the majority of the lads that's an issue

I'd recommend Tallinn.

Great fun, pretty cheap, very friendly people and actually really amazing medieval city centre.

Alright then.
Scandinavia too pricey, although I would recommend Stockholm ahead of Oslo, Copenhagen, and Helsinki. Rejkavik could surprise a few.
Baltic states, Tallinn is best of the three capitals; Riga and Vilnius aren't all that.
Forget Russia and Belarus, as you need visas, although Minsk is alright.
Warsaw and Krakow, are both decent.
Bratislava is passable, as is Chisinau(very cheap) Bucharest has improved since I had mine there but I still wouldn't bother, Sofia too, isn't bad.
Belgrade, though not much too look at, is reasonable, if you want something leftfield Skopje may be worth a go, although Sarajevo with its Islamic angle isn't lads material,
and Podgorica is a bit on the small side.
Tirana, no. Athens, no.
Kiev, would be a good choice, and believe it or not Baku in Azerbaijan I would revisit.
Zagreb = bearable, and as Ian said, Slovenia is definitelty worth a look and still relatively unknown.
Switzerland is not merited, nor really Austria, Italy will not really deliver on the late night or female options. Malta is good in season.
Budapest is trying hard to copy Prague I feel, without being as good, and Prague although swamped with groups of geezers, is still up there.
France, Spain and Portugal, can all be rewarding, Porto and especially Lisbon are lively, I prefer Madrid and Valencia to Barca, and of course you have the Costas.
Probably best not to take a Stag to France.
The low countries and Germany usually deliver, although I would omit Munich, which is a bit conservative.
Great Britain and Ireland are well documented.
As for Armenia and Georgia, I've yet to go.
Ring or PM me for more info.

Would definitely recommend Hamburg. Had great fun down the Rieperbahn.

Saying that, I was on business in Munich earlier this year. Would definitely consider going here too - if only for this place: http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/

Few shouts for Tallinn, excellent place that would surely fit the eastern European theme I would say. Lovely to explore and cheap to drink. In fact, Estonia in general is great. Took an internal flight last time to the island of Saaremaa as it cost us £12 and ended up getting wasted on home made beer in a windmill. Great fun. The Estonian women are incredible too.

Otherwise, Tiraspol is a good laugh...nice statue of Lenin.

I'm glad to hear that you had a great time in Budapest! If you're looking for another destination in Eastern Europe, have you considered Prague?

I had a great time in Belgrade last September.

Cheap, mental football, and amazing nightlife.

I’ve been on stags in Europe and Vegas. If you can find a way to push the boat out for Vegas then I’d recommend doing so as it’s way beyond anything I’ve experienced in Europe.
