Anyone got any good proxy sites to catch up on iPlayer? There's a programme I really want to catch up on.

Appreciate any help ye might have, thanks.

Thanks, Trom. Is it reliable?

Most of them are Bri, I used one for the World Cup and will see if the Xmas schedules warrant another. Usually around a £5 for 10 days trial.

With all due respect to the other ideas, the quickest and simplest way is hola.org. Two minute job. Install the free ap, click the British flag and off you go!

Tunnel Bear gives you 500mb a month free and is only $5 a month for unlimited...
Can also choose US and other countries if you're that way inclined...

Can anyone ease my mind about security as far as these things go?

e.g. When I had a quick look at that hola.org somebody mentioned in the comments section that it's a good service but that it opens a port (?) on your computer.

I don't want some 'port' on my computer lying open while I'm having a big vvank to The Great British Bake Off.

Brian,

I've been using HMA for 2 years from the States. It has been very useful, helped me watch the QPR games when they were only showing them in Malaysia.

Well that would have been useful to know when I had to change proxy settings via quite a tortuous process in order to watch those matches streamed to Malaysia last season.

I guess it might come in handy again if (?) we get into the Championship again?

Yeah but how do I know the proxy, and indeed you, aren't trying to

a) Have a sly look when I'm knocking one out over BBC World
or
b) Create confusion in my head when I'm trying to buy cereal

Would a VPN get over the territory issue? If so, do that and it gives added protection too as i think you are as good as invisible as any website thinks you’re visiting from the VPN rather than your own devuce, ISP etc

At least I think that’s how it works

I've been using a VPN called unblock us for a few years and it works pretty well. Cost is $5 US per month and you can cancel at any time I think.

Does that still work for you, paesanu?

Hola stopped fooling the BBC about a year ago for me. When they asked the usual question at the opening of the site, "Did this work for you?", I'd click the "No, fix it" button.

Last time I tried, a couple of months ago, when access failed Hola offered me 'Hola Plus' (I think that is what it's called) which, it explicitly claimed, would allow me access to BBC services, albeit at a monthly fee. Interesting to go from the old free service to a two-tier free/subscription model, specifically on the basis of BBC access!

Fwiw, Hola Plus is relatively cheap at A$3.99 a month, but I accessed BBC's UK-only services so infrequently I don't think it is necessary (Scrooge McDuck!).

nordvpn works well for me - costs about $5 a month

several layers of security. lots of servers in UK as BBC and others have started blocking certain ip addresses

great for streaming and downloading to the iplayer app for offline viewing.
