Tactics and the future 20:49 - Dec 26 with 739 viewsozranger

Let's forget about today and the past and consider what has to be done for the future. Forget about the players' failings and consider what we require to complete the one task that is at hand, survival for this season. Remember, 17th is good enough.

We all agree that the draw has had its quirks, mostly for us. We played the teams in the lower half of the league at home and those higher up away. That, of course, means that we must do the opposite come 2015. Yet, what tactics do we need to employ and what type of players to pull this off?

First, we should not expect to take as many points at home as we have already. Teams like the sc*m, man*re, etc are not going to sit back for us to attack them. They will be much better and doing what we did to Liverpool and sh*tty is required, but with a few better players to finish it off. I would hope that a few wins could be extracted with some draws in between. We need to select players in the next window that will suit this style of play and not just another striker or defender, etc. It is here where the types of signings that will complement the tactics for the remainder of the season and thus the direction management must be moving towards.

However, what concerns me is the away scenario. We did have some of the types of players required for our 'bonus' games. They were slow, poor in quality, not enthusiastic as when playing at home and using tactics that were more suited to a ten-bus parking station. That has to change, but how is the real question. It is not just the tactics but the players and the belief that we can win away.

One tactic that requires alteration is tempo. The speed of the game will have to improve, as became so evident today when we were a player up and still slowed the game down at every opportunity. Are we to continue that or are we to look at trying to create good counter-attacking situations to snatch a goal or, perhaps even worth consideration, to go out and try to score more than the opponents in a high-scoring affair? The types of players brought in or re-moulded in the next few weeks will be defined by the tactics.

So, there are two problems I see here. The first is the definite requirement to alter the tactics for the second half of the season and the second to alter the mind-set of the players regards the home and away games. Whomever we may bring in has to fit the tactics and not the dire needs of the squad.

Can we change this mindset? Can we alter the tactics for the remainder of the season? That is up to Harry and his mob. We can only hope so as we need to take advantage of this very favourable schedule.

Course we can , we will go to these teams around us and they will be under pressure to beat us . There fans will be posting about a must win game and will be urging their team at us . We will get chances and points .

They are more likely to relish playing QPR at home. We have the worst away record in the whole football league.
