I'm completely ambivalent re the Stranglers. Although my sons go to William Ellis, as did Hugh, Toby young and Bedders (committed Gunner) possibly - to my mind - his best work:

Yeh, I believe he wrote a novel about being in a band, where the band leader was a massive egotist who was only referred to as 'the singer'.
I both think that Elvis Costello is one of the superlative talents of the last 40 years (Christ!) and Mr T. is a very tasty bassist (I saw his replacement at Big Day Out in the Barossa Valley in 2005 and was decidedly underwhelmed), but, hey, we can't all get on, can we?
