For the past several years we've totally ballsed up the summer. Tours and games seem to have been thrown together for reasons that – when they were clear at all – had more to do with marketing, or having a bit of a kick-about with the lads from lower divisions as part of a jolly jaunt. I think this has been disastrous, and a significant factor in where we find ourselves now.
In the next week or so two things should happen, there'll be a clear-out of players, and meaningful practises/player camps ought to begin. Including a full slate of well considered practice matches. I know we've a game set with Wealdstone, are there any others? When can we expect a schedule? Many teams already have theirs announced.
The next couple of months are, most likely, laying the foundations for the next few years. We have one shot at getting it right, and it begins right now, not in August.
