Starts Wednesday, can't wait. Fearful but quietly optimistic that we can take the urn back. Would be happy to go into the final test drawn tbh. Anyway here's something to get the juices flowing;

I have a feeling we are in for another exciting Test. Let's hope it goes our way again, but the pitch will be more suitable to the convict attack than Cardiff was. Either way, I am sure you will enjoy 'working'!! The atmosphere at Lords is very different to any other cricket ground in the world (far less raucous, much more of a constant buzz about the place), but it remains my favorite venue in world cricket.

You're right- been going to Lords for c.30 years, so was keen to actually work here for a bit.

Favourite memory was the 5th day of the ashes in 2009 🍻🍻🍻

Let's hope for a repeat

(Got tickets for the oval Saturday and Monday too)

Ah, 5th day of the Lords Test 2009.........top tier of the Grandstand as Freddie got his 5 fer and we went 1-0 up. About 30 of us ended up out with the majority of the players that evening around Marylebone. Great memories indeed! We can but hope for more of the same! Come on England

Aussies being very boring as well as a load of old shite:

http://www.thecricketer.com/default.aspx?pageid=1223&catid=71&topicid=42200

Probably blanked them because they didn't have their specs on in fact, but bring back the Kiwis for a proper series.

I'd hope that our lot aren't in awe of these Aussie players, unless it is because players like Watson are still deemed international standard. If we can destroy them it will make them look even more petty and pathetic. Roll on Lords and fingers crossed we can turn the screw and go two up.

Having just taken redundancy from work, I've become a steward at Lords for the summer.
Brilliant test v NZ and looking forward to "working" in the upper mound stand from Thursday👍

Blimey that's an excellent thing to do - was it easy to get that gig? Presumably your duties are showing people to their seats at the start of the day and then stopping them coming and going mid-over.

I'm in Edrich Upper on both Thurs and Fri, so in bread roll-lobbing distance of the Mound stand stewards.

I have a feeling it's a bit of gamesmanship by the England dressing room. They will likely have known beforehand that the convicts (or, in fact, Michael Clarke as part of his captain's strategy) didn't want to have a beer with them afterwards. Now, Mr Clarke isn't well liked by many of the convict players. So why not invite the convicts for a beer, Mr Clarke says no beers with the oppo, some of his players want a beer with the oppo and think he is being pathetic...........more friction in the camp!!!

Didn't realise that about hardly any of them acknowledging Root getting to 50. Fair enough not wanting to socialise but not clapping an opposing batsman when he reaches 50 or a 100 is just plain bloody petty and childish.

Applied on-line.
Had 1-1 interview, followed by a days training (re the license, safety procedures, duties etc) then signed a zero hour contract.

Yes, duties include checking tickets, attaching wristbands, showing people to seats etc.
Not the most taxing role I've ever had, but it's a long day on your feet (start at 7am) and its minimum wage - but I decided to do it for the experience, not the money)

I shall keep an eye out and field any bread rolls that come my way - enjoy your days😃

Reckon it'll be a great experience (I would've done it for free - you'll get to see tons of cricket I'm sure). The one thing I wouldn't have done, would be to crouched down pitch-side facing the spectators - pure torture.

Me neither as I think he's past it. Suppose it depends on whether or not his replacement can step up to the mark having not played international cricket before - he'll certainly be under some pressure making his international debut at Lords that for sure!! We can only hope he is a bag of nerves as a result and has a mare!!!

Haddin and Watson both out of the Lord's test. Probably both gone for good I should think. I see that Maxwell is staying at Yorkshire after Finch got injured - another back up player perhaps. Marsh in for Watson but Marsh is also very injury prone.

One other thing, I think that it rained pretty much all day in Cardiff on Sunday, so they only needed to bat out Saturday to save the game - they showed no inclination to do that. Maybe they fancied a beer on Saturday night.

Funny that the term "convicts" is always used in this thread as, to claim convict heritage here is a good thing and most wear it like a badge but all you POMs seem to think we might find it upsetting.

My ancestor, for instance was sent here in 1831 for (allegedly) stealing a pair of trousers. That makes me a 7th generation Aussie. 😎

Lets hope for a closer contest this time rather than the Cardiff debacle.

No. Further annihilation will do just fine, thank you. I'll have an innings victory in 3 days, please.

I think it'll be closer this time as we usually go well at Lords. I just hope those stupid knobs in the yellow wigs don't disgrace our country again. Seeing grown men getting hammered and chanting "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!" is cringeworthy and embarrassing.

At least the Barmy Army are witty which is why most of the crowds out here laugh along with them.

Ah the fanatics. Is there a more laughable, pathetic bunch of supporters anywhere in the world. Well, NO! Absolute embarrassment to the country.

Interesting times. Aus do have a good record at Lords but have lost the last two after that 70 odd year run without losing one. Also only Johnson has bowled at Lords before apparently and he had a nightmare, as he has tended to do in England (he bowls to the left, he bowls to the right...). Can he prove he's not just a home track bully? Time is running out.

As for the others, coping with the slope is the issue. There is no longer the class of McGrath and Warne to make this a certainty. They were awful in the first innings at Cardiff and need to be much better here. Anderson and Broad have very good records at Lords.

The toss is important, and in my opinion far too important in test cricket in general. I think that there should only be a toss for the first test. After that it should just alternate as 9 times out of ten it is better to bat first, just ask Ricky Pointing... As Geoff Boycott once said "If you win the toss and the pitch looks good you bat. If it looks like there is a bit in it for the bowlers you think about it for a bit - and you bat".

If Aus win here its game well and truly back on. If they lose, in light of losing Haddin, Watson and more importantly Harris, it could get ugly for them.

One thing is for sure, the arrogance they came over with is currently missing.

Forecast for today is muggy so it might hoop around for the bowlers, could be a good toss to lose!

If Australia get Root out for less than 86 then they'll reduce his average at Lord's. Cook had a good knock here against NZ and Stokes was good here too in that game.

And all you convicts seem to think that we find the term "POM" offensive. We don't. We just laugh at the stupidity of it

Could have been a good toss to lose this. Overcast and humid. Convicts 5 down by lunch. Come on England

POM isn't meant to be offensive mate. Although we Aussies are a mongrel race from all over the world we still value our British heritage. It could have been worse, the French turned up only a few days after the first fleet landed - Admiral La Perouse. So, we could have been French and not even played cricket.

Poms is a term of endearment. Aussies only give nicknames to people we like. 😉
