Just Enough Education To Perform... 01:22 - Jul 7 with 1789 viewsFredManRave

I tore my ACL a couple of weeks ago playing squash and I've got the operation next week which means I'll be horizontal and inmobile for at least 3 weeks (not to mention the months of physiotherapy and gym work before I can even contemplate getting back on to that basta*d squash court again) and whilst I intend Netflixing loads of series there is surely only so much TV you can watch in a day/week/month?!

So, I'm thinking about doing something educational as well. Although I haven't decided on the exact topic yet, rather than spend the first week trawling the internet to try and find reliable/relevant online courses I thought I'd turn to the font of knowledge that is LFW.

Basically, I'm after any recomendations or suggestions for finding a competent online course provider that will enable me to choose from a wide variety of subjects, obviously starting at the very basics, whereby I can study at my own pace with the possibility to get to a decent level of knowledge in the chosen subject (think a bit more detailed than "Dummies"). No problems with paying assuming it's value for money, obviously...

Answers on a post will be much appreciated...

Done my acl twice on my right knee and once on my left.
I have double discoid meniscus abnormality which makes my knees liable to injury.
It's not that bad a recovery really boss. Just enjoy the time off!

In all seriousness... whatever you do for a living now can you not do something to bolt onto that / help with promotion etc?

Good luck with the recovery

Good luck on the recuperation. Did one of my ligaments on the very last game of the season, luckily not one of the big b@stards like ACL but I haven't kicked a ball in months nonetheless.
Why not look into taking up a new language? There's lots of good sites out there for that, but for a different way of picking one up I suggest memrise.com

This is one question (What are you interested in?) that nobody else can answer for you. If you can answer that question then everything else will be a lot easier, because it's a lot easier to learn something that you are interested in.

At the moment there is a lot of hype about MOOCs, but be warned completion rates for MOOCs are low.

Yeah these are supposed to be good, I work with someone who's taught herself how to analyse MRI scans using a course from here.

guy in here kept getting injuries and was p**** off paying for all the physio so he did a physio course. He ended up quitting in here and setting up his own shop doing something he likes.

Thanks for that Tactical, however, whilst perusing courses for my preferred subject of astronomy I found the following within the "Recommended Background" of what I initially thought would be an appropriate "Introduction To Astronomy" course;

Maybe I should find an astronomy for Dummies site after all...

This is my absolute worse nightmare. Doing my ACL again, in either knee will mean the end of my squash "career" which will be a very sad day for me. I've only been playing for about 8 years and not to a particularly high level but doing one ACL and being told this week that I should have the other knee checked out after the operation and recovery makes me think my squash days may be coming to a premature end at the sprightly age of 44. Gutted.

Table Tennis it is then...
