Austin and his move 20:35 - Aug 22 with 37374 viewsdannyblue

I think the fact nobody has come in with £15m has surprised and hurt Charlie. So too has Hodgson's refusal to give him a cap, unlike cultural insensitive Vardy. Charlie's reaction to Sullivan suggests someone who feels he's being under appreciated. I think that today he seemed to be trying to prove that he can contribute outside the box and is more than just a goalscorer. I've never seen him come so deep so often, and much of the time Massimo was playing beyond him. Charlie did really well for the first and second goals.

Today it was almost like he's had a conversation with Chris Ramsay and they've agreed that to get the move he wants, he should play deeper and demonstrate that he's not just a finisher, and that he can have an impact without playing alongside a target man.

The thing I rate most about Charlie is that he always improves. Every time he's faced a step up, it might take him a few games, but he's made it. Today suggests that he can become more than a finisher.

Also, I was surprised to read in the press suggestions that he's only looking for £45k a week after his move. If that's true, he might be better off letting his contract run down with us and proving the doubters wrong about how he can play. Bearing in mind that £15m is the equivalent of about £300k per week, on a free transfer he should be able to command a lot more than £45k, especially if he's fit for the season and shows people he can be effective as a lone striker and outside the box.

If he stays or goes, good luck to him.

Sky have wasted no time in opening the Charlie market again.... 8/1 to join Palarse or Toon in January

Which also means Chaz and Bianca have another few months of Samaritan helpline users bombarding their twitter accounts from newcastle

Bianca seems pretty happy too

he looks like a player with fire in his belly to prove the doubters and critics wrong if his tweet is anything to go by (backing up last night's)

Charlie and his family have always seemed happy where they are.. Nice quiet street in Chiswick and always friendly when they are seen and met by Rangers fans.... Absolutely chuffed Charlie is stil a Hoop.

A bloke who is happy with his lot makes a nice story. All too rare theses days and maybe he remembers how far he's come. We might finally have a good bunch together in the squad.

Happy days!

From a financial point of view the failure to sell anybody is going to be a major budget buster.

From the football side, we have (one of) the strongest squads in the division, including the best striker. If Charlie really wants to get into the England team for Euro 2016, he could end up with 30-40 goals.

Considering how average the rest of the Championship have been in the first month, a top 6 finish is definitely achievable and an automatic slot cannot be ruled out.

If we aren't going for promotion then we may have effectively paid 15mill for Charlie to get us to finish Mid-Table because that's the transfer fee we missed out on when he goes on a free in May.

We haven't 'paid' 15 mill because we never turned down 15 mill. Nothing has changed. We still have one of the best strikers in England on our books at a very reasonable price.

He wouldnt be a bad player to have in our team if we did end up in the play offs now would he.....?
Few more decent additions in Jan and who knows what could happen. But i do know one thing. I'd rather try our luck with Chaz than without him. If we do go up he'll probably resign anyway...
Really happy he stayed. A striker who actually does what it says on the tin !

and to think the man was booed off a few weeks ago by our own fans.

What great news that he is staying a least until January, I never expected for a second he would stay, barmy that no club came in for him

Is it possible that some were booking the decision to take Charlie off rather than the player himself? Sometimes when a player comes off and a player comes on there is applause for the player coming off then for the player coming on but some fans jump the gun. I was away for Charlton and not trying to justify any booing just can't get my head round it.

I am delighted Charlie is staying. I have been telling my kids, since Leicester away, that Charlie is likely to be off, to manage their disappointment.

At the open day last week it was clear how much he meant to everyone there but it is our young supporters that adore him and was plain to see.

It is heartwarming that I don't have to have the conversation now about Charlie going to Palace but we' ve got Leon Best in now lads so don't worry.

As my 5 year old said to me at the weekend "we should keep all our best players Dad"

Yes we should son, yes we should.

Yesterday I was hoping and praying CA and MP would stay and very happy they have.

This morning , in the cold light I'm shocked and mystified, I'm wondering how CA is feeling as to why he was not snapped up, 15M was never to high for him. it's a really strange one.

Plenty of us were sure he would go, most of the football World thought he would.

Ok there are benefits to him of seeing out his contract and going on a free in the summer, but still he is far to good for this league, will he go in Jan ? I doubt it, he may as well wait till the summer now but I'm still scratching my head as to why he is still here.

When willl this CV nightmare end

'Total Premier League spending in the summer window came close to topping £900m. A glance down the list of recruits reveals a bulging roster of state-of-the-art omni-forwards — No10s, inbetweeners, half-and-halfs — and a dearth of high-end specialists. No doubt Roberto Firmino, Dimitri Payet, Anthony Martial, Son Heung-min, Kenedy and the rest will contribute more than their fair share of assists, interceptions, covering runs, no-look passes and sound defensive cover. But where have all the centre-forwards gone?'

Why are Arsène Wenger and Louis van Gaal so reluctant to sign strikers?

Almost £900m was spent in the transfer window but there appears a general willingness to do without rather than take a chance on a specialist

A few days on and despite his interview, I agree question not really answered.

There are a few clues, quoted as saying he wanted to go an "established PL club" so you would think that knocked out the promoted teams and Leicester.

Also said had to be the "right move for....my family" so you would guess that rules out Newcastle/Sunderland.

After that its guesswork - does he not want to sit on bench most of the time - so that rules out top 6?

So that leaves Palace, West Brom, Southampton? Still plenty of options there to do a deal you would think?

He turned down Palace apparently. Not sure why, think he'd clean up ahead of that midfield.
