What I don’t agree with is that Barton ‘didn’t give a sh*t about us’ part. Whilst I agree the traditions, history of the club meant nothing to him — he only signed for the money after all — on the pitch I don’t think you can ever accuse Barton of not giving anything other than 100%. Unlike many other players over the last few years (when on the pitch) he always put his body on the line, never shirked a challenge, always took responsibility, regularly barked out orders on the pitch, and funnily enough was one of the best at talking and educating the youth team kids at training (allegedly).
I would hope the fans refrain from cheering him on his return. He made mistakes at Rangers (mainly the sending offs) which cost us, plus his conduct on Twitter is always a source of irritation. However, in terms of effort, commitment on the pitch, we’ve had far worse. As much as I didn’t like him and think it was right to release him, I always felt we were a better side with him in it. I despise people that collect their (generous) wage and don’t give a fck about training and trying during games far more than I do people that act like tw*ts off the pitch but at least show 100% commitment on the pitch. |
It's hard to argue with that too much, but still, when it came to big games - the ones that relied on us having to save ourselves from relegation, or play '6 pointers', he inevitably let us down. Not to mention the copious games where his ego forced countless missed opportunities through his insistence on taking every set piece and trying to be pirlo when he couldn't be further from it.
Anyway the Barton thing is done to death. Good for anybody that rates him and wants to sing his name, we obviously have different views on what we want from a player, on and off the pitch. |  |
