At Charing Cross Hospital on Thursday afternoon I went for a blood test on the first floor and this Irish woman who was escorting a chair-bound elderly man was wanting the reception..told her where to get the ticket and sorted her out.
She had a quick beady wee appraisal of me three seats along and noticing the moth eaten QPR 1882 Benny - (c) Lblock - woolly hat on me napper and the 70's shield badge on me right tit ..essential everyday accoutrements for the tubby unfashionable Care-In-The-Community Radio Rental 49 year-old Hoops nutter cycling around town..she ventured an opening conversational gambit : "So you're a Rangers fan are ye? Do you know my son Kevin?" ..and after that Tessa hardly got a word in edgeways in the 4 minutes we - sorry, I - spoke.
Did well to compose myself slightly by not prostrating myself on the floor there and then shamelessly bowing.
Told her I loved her magic son and he loved Guinness and I loved Guinness too and what a player he was and what a b'staad rainy night (was it an evening k-o?) in Portsmouth August 23rd 1996 when in the act of scoring the winner -Tessa corrected me and told me he got 2 - KG broke his leg and lost a yard of pace and how he adapted so well and intelligently to become a hold-up and lay man - brilliant in the 2003/4 promotion season 44 league apps & 17 goals with Furs. Intelligent? most certainly yes! unlike say Rodney Marsh - an R's legend and a laugh of course but not a deep thinker - he talked a hell of a lot of sense on those podcasts..hope he gets all his badges and takes a bigger coaching role at R's eventually. Giving it more blarney I said that Joe,Steve and Kevin all struck me as grafters and really had the work ethic,that's down to the parents innit? - Kev's Dad run all those Whistlers kids teams in Acton,didn't he? she beamed at that,thought she might start purring.
Shook hands with her warmly and Kevin's traditional Old Skool black-capped wee tinker Uncle - Get Well Soon Sir - as I took my leave telling them I was named after the Blessed Plunkett and not that auld b'staad the Accursed Cromwell.
In hindsight really wish I'd gone The Full Finney, and presenting her with some top-of-the-range flowers and turning Simple Minds Alive and Kicking up on the beatbox I'd have told her this: "I'd just like to say on behalf of everyone associated with Queens Park Rangers football club I just want to say thank-you,thank-you Tessa for what you did sometime,somewhere in Chiswick on the 21st September 1975 squeezing out your third boy so successfully,well done and thank-you."

Met and went clubbing with Rufus Brevett & his missus when he was at Fulham she was friends with my ex and her mates , she was out with us in the Emporium NYE 99 when she fell ill, ( allegedly may have been a dodgy jack & jill, can never be proved,) being the gent Rufus was he took her back to the holiday inn near hanger lane , dumped her in bed and then met back with us , ha ha

the night of promotion in 2004 I was in a bit of a state and ended up in champers in Eastcote where I pulled a woman claiming to be mark perrys auntie , nice lady
