listening to fans 11:54 - Oct 8 with 5811 viewslionboy

hello all,
I think we could agree that Chris Ramsey is not the most arrogant of managers, but if I were a new manager struggling to find my feet, then I would use every resource I could to help me solve problems or achieve success, and one of those resources would surely be the fans, especially if they were all saying the same thing. Now I know fans can be divided in their opinions of players, but surely when all fans with one voice are screeching that the team can be instantly improved with the removal of a certain player, then surely it makes sense to listen. So why Mr Ramsey's continuing selection of Karl Henry ? Is it evidence that Ramsey has no respect for the fans' opinions? or that he is unaware of what fans think? or that he thinks that nothing needs to be improved at all? or that he has listened and had a close look at Henry's performances, and genuinely thinks he's ok ? or does he believe that dropping Henry would be a sign of weakness under pressure and therefore undermine his position as boss as a whole? I look forward to your opinions

If the club listened to the fans ....

We'd have a new manager every 5 games
We'd need 20 players per match so that we could haul off those we don't think are performing and replace them with somebody, who's just as likely to be out injured
We'd change formation every other game.
We'd have a first team squad of 50, none of whom would be paid the going rate.
We'd probably have an outside chance of being successful in FIFA2015

The manager, who is far better qualified than any fan, sees the players every day in training. He knows who is fit and who might be carrying an injury. He sets up the team to play in a certain way, which may vary according to the opposition; and many of the training sessions will have been geared towards a specific formation and team selection. What he cannot do is guarantee that all the players will perform to their best at all times. Nor can he prevent players from forgetting instructions they've had in the time leading up to the game. Nor can he legislate for players losing concentration or being caught out of position, i.e. individual mistakes.

Pretty much been tried, as I recall.

You could stick Wegerle in that forward line as well, there was a period he got dogs abuse, now him Les and Furlong are all seen as legends

Says a lot about listening to the fans. Let's face it, sometimes we don't know sh*t

Apart from Fillery. He was rubbish

The Matthew Rose one is a decent example.

I never rated him when I was a kid, and didn't understand at times at how he was a professional football player at that level, let alone make the first-team the 240 odd times he did for us.

Back then, it was all about the first-team and winning for me, and I just never understood how he managed to stay at the club for so long when it was obvious he didn't quite cut it as a player.

Some will say that he always played fantastically well in the lead up to the end of his contract, and had an uncanny knack of earning a new one as a result. I simply saw a player who had a poor first touch and control, who couldn't dribble but often did recklessly and wildly and was the only person I'd often see make attempts at headers when the ball was literally on the floor. Bizarre.

But the truth is much more sincere and in the spirit of what Rangers used to be as a club. A lot of you will have heard the term "club man" and that's what Rose was. He was apparently a thoroughly decent bloke and nice guy and very useful to have around the place as a result.

He was back then, what Peter Ramage has been to many clubs since. And while at the time I didn't get it, the more I worked in football myself, I came to appreciate the need for people like this in the ranks. They are widely respected inside the club for a variety of reasons, perhaps their willingness to help out in non first-team matters, be it the kids, or charity events, and so on.

These are the guys who just get on with their work and job, who are trying to make an honest living as much as they can, despite perhaps not being good enough in some cases, but who through their professional application were respected by their club and their value seen in the bigger picture than just the first-team and winning matches.

It's examples like this that made me change my mind when observing and judging players, and being careful not to just label people based on what you see across 90 minutes.

Ok, lets turn the OP on its head then.
If you were employed by a large national company like Glaxo for example, as a manager in a certian position, you had 50 staff under you and were thought to be a specialist, would you then go and ask the cleaners, drivers, customers etc how you should do your job and who you should delegate specific tasks too?
NO, you have to use your own knowledge and skill set to prove your worth and show that you are capable to do your job and retain your employment. As with any new job there will always be people who will sencond guess you and doubt and even try to trip you up, but if you are capable then it will shine through. Also, he should take all the credit if we succeed but also have to shoulder the blame if we fail. Listening tou OUR CROWD would provide an easy excuse and get out clause. Let him be judged on his own merits with our backing as fans.
For the record, i'd say mid table after 15 + changes and a huge clear out is acceptable at this stage of the season.
Fatcs are, us posters and fans really dont know as much as we think we do. If we did then we would be in his privilledged position making those decisions, but we aint because we are simply opinionated on-lookers. Nobody knew about the "Rio's wife" saga and id guess there are many more issues that are kept under wraps, as they should be.
Id suggest that if anyone believes they know better than Ramsey, they should apply for the position next time it comes up and take it on and prove me wrong. Because as far as I can see WE really know sweet FA about why the team is picked as it is or who is our best option.
Gauntlet thrown down......?

PS- I did say WE because I know F all either
