and in other news, i can announce that later on today, turkey will be wiped off the map and what's left will be divided amongst the kurds, greeks and armenians, following the downing of a russian jet earlier today.
and the price of package holidays to the area will increase, due to the additional radiation treatment required.

Russia attack a NATO member? No chance. But there will be repercussions. What will be interesting is whether the plane was shot down over Syrian airspace as the Russians have claimed. Regardless, its not good news.

You mean the fella who bolted into Pakistan and killed the head of a major terror network? Or the guy who forced health care reforms even though they are unpopular? The guy who bombed Libya? The guy who took on the gun lobby in a country where there are 300 million guns?

That spineless chap?

The Russians have been testing the boundaries for a while now. The RAF have scrambled a few times to escort their planes from our air space and a Russian Sub was spotted in waters close by earlier this week.

This was bound to happen sooner or later. Don't look good though.

Not good at all. These things can escalate rapidly. Nato need to put the Turks in check if we are all to see Christmas.

"You mean the fella who bolted into Pakistan and killed the head of a major terror network?"

Him trying to grab all the credit for that was totally embarrassing.

Anyway a bit worrying having Russia becoming more and more aggressive and a NATO country gradually sliding into dictatorship.

I see that Putin has called the shooting down as Turkey being accomplices of IS and doing their work and that it was an atrocity! No, an attrocity is the shooting down of an airliner filled with 250+ innocent men, women and children with a weapon supplied by a government looking to bully a neighbouring country just because their is a few ethnic Russians living along the border. Putin is a cûnt and the sooner he is taken out the better for the whole world. He has helped create the Syrian refugee crisis by bombing areas that have Syrian-non IS rebels, and he knew that the consequences were what happened on 13th November in Paris. Putin is the prime example why this country should renew Trident. Forget all his 'we're brothers with France' bollox he is in this to distabalise the west.

Wow. It's always nice to see aggressive jingoism of this sort aimed at the evil Russian bear who threatens to eat us all up whether in the form of the Tsarist Empire, Soviet Union or now Putin. I take it you have conclusive evidence that MH17 was brought down by russian rebels, much in the same way there is conclusive evidence that our great ally the USA brought down Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988? Do you also blame Russia whenever someone is killed by an AK47 rifle? And blaming Russia for the 'refugee' crisis is bollox of the highest order I have ever read as anyone who has a IQ higher than 0 knows who the real culprits are for the migrant, sorry refugee crisis are.

Health care?Whereas the Americans were spending $500 a month for healthcare they're now paying $2,000.Total disaster.
Took on the gun lobby?Sales of guns have boomed on the fear that they'll be taken away.Armour piercing ammo ditto.

And you accuse me of being aggressive. in fact I do know someone who actually 'watched' the downing of the Iranian airliner by an American missile, and it was no secret that it was the Yanks. And if you don't think that Putin is funding and supplying the pro-Russian rebels in the Ukraine you really are naive to say the least. And I didn't say that Putin created the refugee situation but his actions have contributed to it by bombing pro-rebel/anti IS enclaves. And if you cannot realise that then accusing you of being naive is not enough.

Turkey (and NATO for that matter) want rid of Assad so actually don't mind IS causing trouble in Syria (with the support of the Saudis).

Russia isn't having it and is supporting Assad. Hence all the anti-Russian stuff in the western mainstream media.

But ultimately what Turkey have done today is very silly, I doubt their western allies are that pleased with them.

Yep the changes to healthcare were for the benefit of Obama's sponsors from the health and insurance industries. The cost has gone through the roof for ordinary Americans.

Incidents like this were always happening in the Cold War,but the potential impact was shrouded from the public by tightly controlled media. It's different today of course. It'll have to be much more serious than this to escalate matters.A bit coincidental that the Gary Powers movie is about to hit the screens, now that was scary at the time.
I'd like to see what the Putin reaction would be if a NATO plane wandered into Russian airspace.

I'm sure ordinary people voted for him without realising he was going to push up the cost of healthcare even further.

Good man.

Anyway it looks like Russia told Turkey (and all the rest of the region) that they were in the vicinity bombing ISIS and happened to enter Turkish airspace for all of 9 seconds. Turkey decided to then blow the plane up and then the rebels they are backing shot the pilots as they were parachuting down helplessly afterwards.

Rumour is Russia were bombing an ISIS convoy that was selling oil to Turkey.

For which ISIS gets paid handsomely in gold and Dollars. You know ISIS have actually issued their own currency? The Gold Dinar worth £91 each.

Maybe it'll be a fudge and they'll blame pilot error/faulty instruments.

despite being a nato country, and supposedly more aligned to the west, turkey has shown no willingness to deal with isis at all. in fact, there is this amazing statistic claiming to show how many people it has allowed through its country and out of its borders directly into syria to fight for isis, despite knowing what these transients were planning to do. instead of either informing their country of embarkation and returning them, they just closed their eyes to the situation.
it has been known for some time that turkey have been buying isis oil for its own use, which is in breach of international treaty and sanctions placed on isis.
their total lack of cooperation, as well as their suppression of their citizens, the kurds for decades, their treatment of armenians and the continued denial of the massacre of over 1 million of them 100 years ago or willingness to pay reparations just shows how extreme turkish president recep tayyip erdogan is. some of the laws passed under his presidency would be considered breaches of human rights in the west, another is no freedom of press, the internet is controlled so that citizens are denied total and free access. social networking sites are also controlled and frequently shut down.
i have a friend who lives near istanbul for many years, and he reports that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult for many ordinary citizens.

i know that their strategic location is what it's all about, but is this really the kind of criminal and oppressive government we want in nato?
