One of my favourite albums. soundtrack to the eighties for me. I hear they're releasing a Lexicon of Love 2? There's been some interesting documentaries on the Sheffield scene on BBC4 over the past couple of years.

Good thread. Top 5 album for me still that one. Fantastic production and every track a winner. When Pop was good. Although tempted to loyally suggest Croydon for The Damned, Kirsty McCall, Saint Etienne and the birth of Dubstep, I don't think that is enough to win the vote. Manchester or Sheffield I suppose.

I'm presuming by your avatar you've got a soft spot for Warp records too?

Dunfermline's up there due to The Skids, Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Big Country and Nazareth. Oh, and death metal pioneer Barbara Dickson, of course.
Sadly, Egremont isn't. They have produced It Bites and not much else.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I was going to suggest that Croydon punches way above its weight.
When I saw St Etienne as I scrolled down I thought someone was suggesting Chelmsford! Must just be the lovely Sarah. It is, I looked it up...

I am a bit gutted as I wanted to indulge myself. Saint Etienne (a Croydon band) did a track called Hobart Paving (A Croydon company originally) that was remixed by Aphex Twin (see my Avatar) But it is not on Youtube.
