Well Liverpool and Southampton did so don't see why Palace will be any different
Big difference between taking a player on a six month loan and buying him for a wedge. Particularly when both clubs that did loan him quickly decided he would play no part for them.

I think Caulker is a Super PLayer and would be bargain basement at 8.5 million, really we should be holding out for 10mill - but thats the way it goes sometimes.

I'm with you on this one, TGRRRRS. When you look at the English CBs available to Roy Hodgson, you wonder what Caulker has to do to get another England call up?
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one’s lifetime. (Mark Twain)

He could try being horribly racist? Or sleeping with his mate's wives / girlfriends? That's got to be worth 20 caps.
'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I think so - his style of generally going missing.... will be much missed at the euro's :)

Phone Rings. 'Hi Les, it's Pards, how much for Caulker?' 'P!ss off Hoosie, that's not funny. Good impression though.' 'No, it's really Pards.' 'Hilarious Lee. Haven't you got anything better to do?'
Phone rings again. 'Hi Les, it's Tony Poolis here.' 'Oh really? I spose you want to buy Caulker for £6m?' 'Yeah, how did you know?' 'P!ss off - is that you again, Hoosie? Or did you get Olly to call me? It sounds like Olly with that bloody accent.'
Phone rings again. 'Les, Big Sam. Caulker, how much?' 'Lee, you're fired.'
Bare bones.

Sunderland have "joined the chase" for the "in demand QPR centre back Steve Caulker"
Sunderland Echo
I could help the Sunderland Agents to win this race and give them an advantage; maybe try some boozers in Hampton, or at a push some casinos up town
That aside.....message to Sam and the rest of the Managers in the chase:- "Caulks" is a GREAT player, worth six mill and pay rise. Needs to get back on track and he'll soon be back in the England fold. Strong, physical, pacey and a leader of men. Will be sorely missed in W12
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

FAO Sam.
I'd just like to reiterate the words of my fellow learned poster LBlock by saying what a grate player Steve Caulker is. In fact down at the Rangers we call him Super Stevie Corker, because we all think he is Super and because he has a corker almost every game. The guys a machine.
The inescapable fact to this thread is , that Allardyce, & Pullis know players, and defenders in particular. Both set their teams up to be defensively sound first and foremost. This surely tells us there is a player in there somewhere, that one of these two will bring out and make us look very foolish. I do think it's best to sell, don't get me wrong, for us and him, but I can see alot of the comments, about how bad he is choking us when he settles into one of these teams

You may be right, including the bit about it still being right for us to sell him.
It was absolutely right for us to sell Barton, who was a blight on the club, but as far as I can see he's done pretty well since he left us because he's been properly managed.
But we shouldn't beat the club up too much on this. If Allardyce gets the best out of a player he buys relatively cheaply then good luck to him. But we didn't buy Caulker as a cut-price player, he was a highly rated defender at the time and the blame for his under-performance lies mainly on him himself.

I agree to an extent. I still think there's a great player in there and was pleased when we signed him. But I've heard some horrendous things about him, bit of a nightmare apparently. Neither Pulis nor Allardyce are beyond making a signing because the player has a favourable agent.

Interesting to note that Pulis and Alladyce are good mates with Redknapp... Those 3 sitting around a dinner table, having a chat.that wouldn't be 'bent' at all..£££££.
