Hodgson's biggest mistake was not winning that bloody group. Resting his team was just hopelessly foolish and he should be fired on that decision alone.
Lessons not learnt.
We made the same mistake in 1998 where we we had to go the hard route from Argentina, Holland, Brazil to reach the final - and in 2002 where we ended up with Denmark (who had p*ssed their group at that point) and Brazil.
