Spiders 13:36 - Jul 27 with 2140 views | enfieldargh | I know all the ausie hoops on here are going to bombard us with whopping great spider stories but my house had loads of the tiny bodied spiders with very long spindly legs . It's only been about 5 years since they appeared as never noticed them before, so what they all about then

thanks for the info but they seem to be a bit more of a modern phenomenon, I mean I never noticed them in the 70's & 80's even the 90's. Did they come onto the scene when Thatcher lost power plus I dont have a cellar

Pholcus species are excellent to have around if you don't want any more spiders in the house. They are vicious arachnid hunters. The long legs keep the bitey bits of the other spider away.

Yes, there's definitely more around - this is due to the warm, wet summers we've been having in recent years. Totally harmless.

I've heard this but how is this possible? That a spindly daddy long-legs can take on the might of a huge, hairy wolf spider and come out on top?

Spiders on 21:14 - Jul 27 with 1672 views | Brightonhoop | There's a jumping spider here, right bstards, 3 bites and your liver/kidneys give up. Cant just stand on them because they see you coming and jump, so fly sprayed one last week, stopped it jumping, went into a fit and died. So job done. Properly tiny but dangerous fckers.

It's that spindly tiny body that does it. poor old opposition spider can't get close enough, and even if it gets close it's a tiny target they're trying to get at. Evolved perfectly to cannibalise other spiders. Spiders are fascinating, love popping into the garden at night and trying to get shots of the False Widows and the massive Segestria florentina. The latter just sit at the edge of their tube with their massive legs dangling out. They move so fast if anything wanders past them on the wall. Impressive beasts, and their chelicerae are metallic green if you get the light reflecting right. Yet to nail a shot of them as they back off into the tube when they see me.

That would be from the arachnonob family. ShÃt family. I hope I don't come back as one. [Post edited 27 Jul 2016 22:59]

Spiders on 23:49 - Jul 28 with 1229 views | Hoop_Du_Jour | I've got a fly eating dog. Chases the buggers around the house barking at them. Chased one into the kithen the other day, went quiet for a few seconds, then there was a kerfuffle of claws scraping floor tiles and he came strolling back into the living room chewing something on one side of his chops. never saw the fly again....
