Hunt for the Wilderpeople is worth a watch too. Odd little film by the guys behind flight of the concords (they also did What we do in the Shadows, which is excellent).
Funny and emotional all at once with a great soundtrack
Great film.
Never knowingly understood

How funny was the f""k up at the end ..h
You had me confused, Pommy, because there isn't anything funny in "White Helmets" and I hadn't seen any of the Oscars except a running text list of winners earlier that hadn't yet got to 'Best Picture'.
I really want to see Moonlight - saw the trailer the other day and was hooked.
Also want to see the one about the guy behind McDonalds.
Saw Lion the other day - good family movie.
In TV terms have just finished Taboo - loved that.
Moving on to SS Britain or whatever it's called - the one about the Nazis talking over the UK.
Watched this last week. Beautifully filmed, and fantastic performances throughout. Won't be everyone's cup of tea (wife found it a bit dull I thjnk), but worth checking it out. Worth seeing on a decent screen too, there are a lot of very artistically shot scenes.

Watched "Manchester by the Sea" recently. I can see why Casey Affleck won Best Actor. I'd liked to have seen it on a big screen, because of the scenery. The pace is very slow but addresses how people deal/fail to deal with a tragedy.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one’s lifetime. (Mark Twain)

I've always loved Casey Affleck, it's not the best film but his performance in 'The Assassination of Jesse James (by the Coward Robert Ford)' is brilliant. Looking forward to watching Manchester by the Sea but I always try to reserve the cinema trips and expenditure for the big action type films that are less impressive on the laptop.

I thought it was a great film. Rarely go the cinema as that means sitting down to long and I'd rather be exercising or doing something but I sat riveted to that film from start to finish. Definitely an Oscar winning performance from him.
I can see why people may think it is slow but if you relate to his character in ways your own life has been affected by events then it is a very moving film.
