Easily my least favourite decade of music but a gang of us have been coming up with Top 5's from the 80's. Some great music in our Top 5's, but not much strength on the bench!
This was my No.1 of the 80's
edit - Jesus, Youtube's sound quality is utter$hite - no bass at all.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Anything recorded in the Eighties (push, push, strrrugle) by a certain band from Swindon is absolutely f-ing genius and quite possibly the greatest things ever recorded by human beings.
And that is that.

The eighties was actually named after this song.
Big influence on Nirvana too obviously.

Great tune, Danny. I'd always thought it was about embracing old age.
I think the 80's were pretty bloody amazing for music: so many fantastic groups, brilliant albums and singles. I know a lot of that will be because of my age at the time and associations with various tunes, but I even love a couple of REO Speedwagon songs!

Pretty much anything by The Smiths was epic. Madness are right up there too: Baggy Trousers is still one of my favourites. I once had to dance to it on my own at my mate's wedding as punishment for bribing the DJ to change the First Dance to the Birdy Song. One man skank army (or so I thought - I was very, very drunk at the time. No video records survive).

Just popped in to say I think the title is very harsh! There was some great music in the 80's. You might not have loved the 80'S Brian but then maybe you should have called this thread "The Indifferent Eighties"?!
About 20 years ago, my mate and I got a standing ovation after a particularly enthusiastic rendition of this during the Sunday afternoon karaoke in the Boston, Tufnell Park. For five drunken minutes, I *was* Jim Kerr.
