Easily my least favourite decade of music but a gang of us have been coming up with Top 5's from the 80's. Some great music in our Top 5's, but not much strength on the bench!
This was my No.1 of the 80's
edit - Jesus, Youtube's sound quality is utter$hite - no bass at all.

Brian, I am bewildered that such an erudite, cultured man of reason as your good self cannot see that the eighties is arguably the best decade ever! So much diversity and breadth: post-punk, 2-tone, reggae, new romantic, indie, jazz-funk, electro, hip-hop, house and great artists like Bowie and Prince in their pomp.
I could be here all night, but here's three off the top of my head from the early years to start:
As a big soul fan, loved Shalamar, Evelyn King, Maze, Fat Larrys Band, Gap Band, D Train etc I could go on.
Also living in South London difficult times with Unemployment, riots etc. Then the global picture with CND, cold war, Falklands. Some of the Music captured that mood.
Anyway here goes, 25 tracks in no particular order
1. The Jam - Precious (with Town Called Malice) 2. UB40 - Food for Thought/King 3. OMD - Enola Gay 4. The Clash - London Calling 5. Elvis Costello - Olivers Army 6. Yazoo - Only you 7. The Smiths - This Charming Man 8. The Specials - Do Nothing 9. Madness - Embarrassment 10. The Specials - Ghost Town 11. Heaven 17 - Come Live with me 12. The Style Council - Long Hot Summer 13. Wham - Everything She Wants (sorry boys but a great record) 14. Depeche Mode - See You 15. Human League - Mirror Man 16. The Mighty Wah - story of the blues 17. Tubeway Army - Are Friends Electric 18 Soft Cell - Tainted Love 19. Blondie - Atomic 20. ABC - The Look of Love 21. Frankie Goes to hollywood - Two Tribes 22. Banarama - Cruel Summer (guilty pleasure perhaps) 23. UB40 - Earth dies Screaming 24. Luther Vandross - Never Too Much 25. Rufus and Chaka Khan - Aint Nobody

Great Decade. I'll just name some tunes:

Yes those early UB40 tracks were brilliant. It all went wrong after and including red red wine imo

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
