over here in Ireland in the last general election we had a girl run who promised that if she was returned by her constituency that she would allow the members of her constituency to vote in parliament through her.
e.g. say there is a referendum on abortion or privatising healthcare you could effectively vote online for how you want it and then she would go and vote in government on what her constituents voted for.
I thought it was a novel idea. Probably not new and suggested elsewhere around the world no doubt. It was novel for Ireland though.
How did she get on. In a constituency of say 50K voters she managed to get 300 votes.
So like you guys we have two main parties over here and everybody is always going to vote them in and then f***in moan when they do something they don't like.

I never even heard of that candidate, Bob. What a shame, she deserved more coverage and votes for trying, well, for trying democracy in a democracy.

One look at Jezza's shadow cabinet tells me all I need to know. Then he goes and suggests a maximum wage to punctuate his inability understand the current political landscape.

It's not a maximum wage per se, it's a maximum highest-to-lowest wage ratio within a company. You can pay yourself what you like as a boss, but can't pay your lowest paid member of staff less than 1/20th.

Which 1970s policies in particular don't you like because I haven't seen you mention any?
Please watch this for a non scientific example of my point:

Yeh we've played this game before. Come back to me after the next election when he's lost and we're stuck with these cnts for another four years and we'll talk about how wonderful all his policies would have been then.

The BBC are so far left i can't bear to read or watch them anymore. They are enemies of the state and lack any kind of common sense, or any grasp of reality. As is JC. I keep hoping God will show himself and thunderbolt both parties.

It's funny; my Mum has turned so right wing in her old age, she'd give Eva Braun a run for her money. She thinks the BBC is infested with left-wing journalists, all out to destroy the Government.
As far right as she is, you then read blogs like the OP has referenced about how right-wing the BBC is and how it's out to demonise the opposition.
If people at each end of the spectrum can get that upset over what the bBC are saying, then I'd suggest that they must be behaving in a pretty impartial way.

Yeah we have played this game before, and you didn't give me any then either.
If you want to rant about Corbyn and Labour and bemoan a future Tory election win at least give me some more details? Otherwise you are pretty much just an cynical armchair supporter. Like those who slag Gladwin without seeing him play.
I invest a lot of time and effort for Labour and it boils my piss when people on the doorsteps or the phone rant about Labour but then shrug their shoulders when I ask them what in particular they don't like.
Join or at least visit a CLP and influence Labour from the inside if it troubles you that much.
And by the way The Canary has no affiliation to the Labour party.

Sorry, meant to be position but must have fallen victim to a spell checker.
Haven't seen the video as I am at work, but Greg Philo and the Glasgow Media Group were banging this drum when I was an undergrad 30 years ago so I think the dastardly hidden hand has been on display for quite a while.
I ask you - in what other online football forum could you read about the Glasgow Media Group and their critical analysis of the media?! Respect! Enjoying this thread - we're an intelligent lot us hoops.

"So, on the one hand the supposedly anti-establishment figure of Trump (a bizarre enough label in itself - a multi-millionaire who does what he wants, when he wants, says what he wants and was for years very close to the Clintons is anti-establishment? How?) " I don't understand the inability to believe that Trump is anti-establishment when literally the entire establishment including the government, media and both US parties tried to stop him getting the presidency. The fact that he's a multi-millionaire or does what he wants has absolutely nothing to do with it.
The BBC is stuffed full of liberal elistists (I imagine there was barely a vote among them for Brexit despite 52% of the country voting for it). But Corbyn is too bonkers even for them. Does he have any ideas that aren't from the 1970s hard left handbook?
OH cmon Trump changes like the fcken wind. 'Hilary is great' 'lock her up'. Drain the swamp, he is just refilling with wealthier lobbyists. He wont last, he bullshts far to much.

How do they compare to the news in Thailand then? Not that free, fair or balanced in comparison I'd suggest. Quite frankly surprised that you have such strong views as an Expat, having spent 3/4s of my career either working or travel extensively overseas (including in some very unsavoury places) I found that I had a much greater appreciation of what the BBC did and that they largely kept to a factual basis in their reporting.
Never knowingly understood

We have played this game before. Every time they say he is going to lose he wins.
He won't ever be leader of the Labour Party = He Wins. Labour will lose the London Mayor race because of him = easy Labour Win (if it was all Khan then it does not matter if Corbyn is the leader) He cannot win the local councils = He wins them with a slight increase He is just behind Owen in the Labour Leadership race = He wins easy and also that's with tens of thousands of ballot papers not being sent out in time even though they are his supporters and paid the extra-extra-extra. Meaning his victory would have been even bigger. Probably around 70%.
Forget that in that time of his so called "losing" position that the Labour party has become the largest party in Europe (even though the NEC was against him), forget that Labour is now 4 times the size of the Tory party who have to give CPR to their members to get’em to register each year. That he has fanatics on the twitisphere doing all their hippy jonx or the trendy shoreditch massive making him out to be popular by being anti-establishment (except when its the NHS of course). Forget all that.
Or course he cannot win, just like all the other times he could never win.
zzzzzzzzzz

I've never said any of that. I've said he won't win the general election. And he won't. So get used to another x number of years of Tory rule. Can't wait to hear what "Gladys from Didcot" thinks about that in her e-mail.

If the voting public got off it's arse to vote like it did in the EU vote anything can happen.
Maybe they will with the con's making such a mess of everything and could be a lot worse by the time of a election. . We talk of getting better managers but often can't name one, that's Labours problem, they don't have anyone better than Corbyn, the members that attack him don't attack his policies as they don't have any of their own unless it's blairism they want to take Labour back to.
Corbyn is so 70's.. Well I think if we carry on with the Cons we will soon be 1870's In the news to day, 8 men are worth in total more that half the worlds population.
May lying through her teeth about a fairer society is already wearing thin, unelected she may well fall on her sword in an election.
In 7 months , name one thing that she has done to change to a fairer society. feck all is the answer.

He cant win a General Election .The polls put him miles behind .I know they have been wrong recently but not by the massive amount he would need. He has the support of a small no of his own MPs , the rest think he is trashng their career and handing power to the Torys. He needs loyalty where he has shown none in the past The UK electorate is around the centre, dipping just left or just right . He has to get a swing of millions to win power . His best bet IMO would be to identify someone who looks and sounds the part , who shares some of his ideals but is centre enough to make the middle ground think. He could then recommend them to the membership essentially installing his own choice . Then step back and become a Tony Benn type influence on the party . I am a Tory , if he chooses to stay on ..I am very happy , but it is like watching a car crash slowly unfold ...IMO

Serious questuon: in your view would Angela Eagle or Owen Smith be doing a better job job at this point?
There's an argument to be made that we don't live in moderate times, and business as usual candidates of all stripes don't resonate -- but maybe that's a different thread.
Agree that Corbyn isn't doing well by the way -- but there's a long way to go to an election (assuming it's not called early, which I'm pretty sure it won't).

Speaking as a Conservative voter , someone like Dan Jarvis or David Milliband would concern me ... the two you mention , not so much .
