According to Wikipedia:
“Ferdinand made his QPR debut on 20 April 1987, aged 20, as a substitute in the 4—0 league defeat by Coventry City at Highfield Road — the first of two league appearances that season.”
Apparently not. I guess this was his second appearance.
I can only say for a teen synth pop band of the eighties they have remarkable longevity and are surprisingly good live and turn out some very original stuff even now.

Should have been 8-1 but I think the ref took pity on us when Barron caught the ball about a foot behind the line and claimed it hadn't crossed. The pouring rain didn't help the mood much either.

Good call, Both versions were great in their way. I know the Go Go's got slaughtered in the press but they were very cool as far as i was concerned,

Really? I can't remember that. My memory is awful.
I do remember us singing:-
"...and now you're gonna believe us" but the last line kept changing as the goals kept coming in, starting with "we're gonna win the league", descending all the way to "we're in the Wednesday half".

Best uncool band I ever saw (several times at the Mean Fiddler) were Katrina and the Waves, who were so uncool they later not only entered Eurovision but won the f*cking thing. As with Carol Dekker in the OP, Katrina Leskanich had a hell of. pair of lungs and Kimberley Rew was as good a writer of pop songs as anyone in the 80s
... and they gave the Bangles their first hit
