The retaliation rule is dumb. James is 'retaliating' for the initial challenge on him, then their number two 'retaliates', yet it's only our player who gets a red for a pretend head-butt. I'd be pissed off if someone went for my ankle like James did, and while it's unprofessional in the cold light of day, it is stupid that you're punished more for handbags than genuinely malicious challenges. | | | |

It was a late tackle, it wasn't high, I didn't think he "went for his ankles", if it had been really malicious he would have gone through the back of his legs. Dom Ball's foul that he was booked for was easily as bad and that guy just got up and got on with it.
Sanderson lost control. That's not a new rule, it's always been the case that is you retaliate like that you get sent off. And he's not some little kid. He's been at a Premier League club for years and we're his fourth loan or something. I can't understand people apologising for his reaction. If you want to be a big-time player, you don't lose your rag like that. High pressure game and he let everyone down because he couldn't control his temper. |  | | |

Brainless from Sanderson, he might have brushed his forehead against the Blackpool player, but still…bad foul on him but he must have known it was coming. Could have bitten his lip, let the Blackpool take the card. Turned a comfortable night against a really toothless side into a desperate struggle.
But then, if the ref had given the obvious foul by Sanderson in the first place, James wouldn’t have been out for payback, so obvious what he was going to do. Laissez faire referees think they help the game flow, but they stoke this kind of retribution - see also Dike on Barbet. |
