A post from a Memeber of the excellent Minder.Org website ; Local Notes; There was much sadness in the local area on Sunday with news of the sudden passing of popular local man Terrence (Terry) McCann at the age of 74. A native of the area, Terry was a successful and highly talented boxer in his younger days and was tipped as a future British champion before injury cut short a highly promising career. He retained a lifelong passion for the sweet science and his words of encouragement and advice were much sought and valued by any aspiring local fighter. Football was Terry's other sporting interest, and he was often to be found at Craven Cottage and Stamford Bridge on alternate weekends. Only days ago he had celebrated the Cottagers' promotion to the Premier league. Terry was employed for many years with the local firm of A.E. Daley Ltd, chiefly in the motor and general wholesale trade departments of that concern. He would regale any company with the often hilarious escapades he enjoyed in his time with the firm. He will be remembered as a friend to all, always ready with a sympathetic ear and a helping hand to all who needed it, without seeking anything in return. Terry will be sadly missed by his many friends in local sporting and business circles, The Winchester club, and the community as a whole. Rest in Peace. [Post edited 9 May 2022 9:43]
