Bloke was a chat show legend.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

That's sad, great chatshow host.

His interviews with Ali, Connolly, and even Freddie Starr, were memorable. Being allowed up to watch him was a sign you were no longer a little boy.

RIP Parky, utter ledge.

Ah man that's sad. I miss proper chat shows with laughs and proper conversation.

All we have now it's pr××ks such as Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross, and Alan Carr

His show really was an institution in the 70s (when the BBC was a much more significant institution).

We were chatting about him on here recently.

The best interviewer in many eyes, mine included. Supremely gifted and superbly researched. It helped that he was a lovely and likeable gentleman.

His sports columns for the Daily Telegraph were also masterful.

An artist.

Great host, asked the right questions and allowed the guests to answer. The guests seemed to be queuing up to get on and not only when they had a new product to mention.

A great sports fan and reporter, never missed an opportunity to name check Barnsley the town and the club.

In one.

An interviewer who let people talk, a rare gift.

As a cricket mad teenager in the 1960’s I found his columns in the Sunday Times about League cricket in Yorkshire to be absolutely hilarious and he brought the characters he described to life so vividly.

In a former working life I worked in TV. Very early in my career as a runner on a TV programme I had to look after Parky. I was a bit nervous dealing with him but he was a total gent. I asked him if needed anything, which given the way celebs can be could lead to quite the demand, and all he asked for was a pillow for his sore back and a cup of tea. RIP Parky. Top man.

Funny you should mention that because I was just going to say that he was a very talented cricketer in his youth and that I have read a hilarious book by him about his cricket career. I read his book umpteen times, here's a link to it, it is a cracker:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cricket-Mad-Michael-Parkinson/dp/0099081407

He also wrote a similar book about his footballing exploits, "Football Daft," but I think the cricket one is better. He's very self-deprecating.

A sad loss, RIP.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Did anyone catch LBC's Shelagh Fogarty speaking with Parky's oldest mate Dickie Bird just before 2pm today?

Such a moving piece, a couple of proper old mates, poor fella was weeping, sounds like they had a real love for each other.

He was the absolute master of his craft - RIP Parky.
