There is a phenomena of criminals returning to the crime scene to observe how their handiwork is dealt with. In some cases the perpetrators are thought to experience a kind of perverse thrill, reliving the crime and experience over again in their mind.
And so, Laird and Roberts - the Brum Bandits – the arsonists who burnt season 22/23 to the ground, return to the scene of their horrific crimes to sift through the ashes to see if there is any trace evidence left behind of their time at Loftus Road. Maybe they will revel in the looks of horror on the faces of the gathering masses, or the shaking of the heads from hardened veterans who thought they had seen everything, but were shocked at what they saw inside?
The looks of horror though are to be found on their own faces as they cross the line and lay eyes upon a very different scene... this is definitely not what they were expecting.
There are no chalk outlines in the shape of Gareth Ainsworth or Neil Critchley, no sobbing loved ones desperately clutching at a soiled Tyler Roberts shirt, or a dumbstruck forensic accountant trying to justify how they were duped into spending money on absolute toss... No, The scene is, well, lovely and green... the faces are a mixture of hope and happiness... the site isn't a vacuous, charred mess... the manager is commanding, strong and looks like he knows exactly what he's doing.
Panic sets in, it wasn't supposed to be this way!
In unison, already fresh out of ideas of what to do next, like muscle memory, what happens to Laird and Roberts when faced with uncertainty or difficulty, happens again - they both sit down and shake their heads... 'It's the calf again guv' is barely audible above the din from the masses who aren't even booing, they're laughing... and Laird and Roberts, as they trudge off the pitch give a faint clap as some kind of acknowledgment. This is rejected though, the people vs Laird and Roberts is over, the judgement was passed down - they were found guilty, although they felt none, and sentenced to a career of nothingness.

Just seen.... we've had 9 shots, 3 on target with 2 clear chances.
We should be 1 up. To be fair we could be behind too.
Watching the highlights.
Chair header...couldn't of done more.
Anderson on the end of the cross....did well to do what he did.
Anderson booting it over...could have done better
Willock shot...should have passed it
Dunne header....a bit tame but was marked so ok.
We have played well. Looked a bit exposed at times but then shut the door.
Just need the first goal here.

I may be in the minority here, but I'm done with Willock, he can leave in the summer!!!
Although I like Frey, he needs to come off. Armstrong is the bloke for the next 45mins up front. The peaky blinders defense hasn't been too good.... Sinclair needed to make them sh*t themselves a bit.
Dunne man of the match so far, Hayden also been good.
Andersen needs to score before the end of the season, bloke has had ample chances.
Chair needs to be further up the pitch, playing too deep and then doing his greedy stuff when he is - just put in a nice pass into the box.

When we attack at pace, we look good. When we slow it down (frequently) we look well short of goals. I am worried here.
Last ten minutes of that half we were well off it. This lot will crumble if we get ahead; if not, they certainly have enough quality on the pitch to knick this.

A classic glass half-full/half-empty half, but for me I'm feeling more down than up (again) and more anxious than encouraged about the 2nd half.
Anderson should have opened his account, and even had two goals.
Frey has been mostly inept and ineffective.
Chair has buzzed about as he does, but has been too deep or too greedy too often, while not stinging like a bee, while Willock's had no more than a couple of flashes (not literally).
We also got a bit lucky at the other end with a couple of counters, including a hilarious slice by Roberts.
