Charlie Austin - Horseracing 09:51 - Feb 4 with 4237 viewsMarc

I mean this as a genuine question, is Charlie becoming too focused on and distracted by Horseracing?

I'm just going by what I see from him on twitter but he tweets a hell of a lo about tracing in general and owning them. Really seems to have picked up over the last few months as well.

Now I know footballers are allowed interests outside of football, no issue with that. But this seems to be a money making exercise for Austin and you do wonder how much time is being split between football and the nags. This seems to go on a lot at the club, maybe actually encouraged, to generate profile etc.

Are you of the old school, in that you prefer footballers to be just that and for them to focus on the job at hand? Or not really fussed what they get upto in their spare time?

The old school lot would go to the pub after training. Apparently he knows Michael Owen well and has been into it for years. Everyone has a hobby, ours are Qpr!!

He's just trying to drum up business for his new horse racing business.

He's young with his career ahead of him so it's not like some old lag looking to retirement.

Waiting for his call-up to the grand National team?

grew up in horse racing territory so will always have been aware of racing. having shares in a few of horses takes up next to no time and his mate probably runs the admin side along with the trainers he's involved with.

most players have to fill in the 22 hours per day that they aren't training and this will be as low involvement as you can get. rather this than on 5live or sky talking bollox.

as for the money making element, the margins are pretty tight in racing and he won't be in it for the profit, possibly just a better value way for him to be involved in a few horses and spread the costs amongst many.

his money spinning will come with his new contract/ big move in the summer!

I believe there are players who
a) Promote casinos, their own books and clothes
b) take philosophy degrees and post on Twiitter
c) study for UEFA coaching badges

13 goals in the Premiership this season would suggest that he is managing to balance being a footballer and having a hobby just fine!! Long may it continue

I never understand the obsession people have with our players doing other stuff. Like they should be sat at home after training doing crunches for 20 hours a day in front of a picture of Stanley Bowles.

You can only train so much. Footballers have like 4 hours a day free. So he sends a few tweets about his horse racing company, struggling to see a problem. He's always liked the nags. Makes him seem like an actual human to me

Whatever he's been doing so far this year, he should keep doing and perhaps increase. It's obviously working!

Perhaps he can persuade some of our less successful recruits to join him...

I actually think that someone else is tweeting this stuff under his name. At least I hope that is the case because he seems suddenly obsessed by extra-curricular activities.

Pretty sure it's him, think he lived out West Berks as a kid where it's more horse racing/rural, I think he's always been into it.
He has tweeted about his injury saying he won't know more till at least tomorrow (Sunday) so whon knows...

Almost 3 hours after the game finished, so what?

And if he is injured how does sending a tweet change anything?

Find this obsession youve built baffling

Stan Bowles wasn't interested in horseracing, was he?

Obsession? Easy buddy, i've started one thread on the subject where i've posed a question that gathered some very good opinions.

My second post was meant to be a bit light hearted, hence the silly emoticon, but I can see why you might have taken it a bit more seriously than intended.

Austin now taking pelters on Twitter for caring more about horse racing than playing for QPR.

Some of our fans need to have a day off.

Wtf is he supposed to do, push the same anemic shit about 'gutted about result'?

How can fans not differentiate between players doing their best on the pitch and then have a personal life away from the club, and then the idiots that stroll around collecting their 60k a week for sitting on the bench or in the stand.

Of all the players to get the arse with!

Fair dues fella, sorry. It's just a trend I notice that a lot of fans seem to think our players should go around whipping themselves while doing nothing but shuttle runs.

It takes under 30 seconds to send a tweet, and it was 3 hours post game. Personally I love Charlie's twitter as compared to a lot of footballers, he seems like a normal human being. Likes horse racing, watching Eastenders and playing with his kid

Charlie Austin - Horseracing on 11:38 - Feb 9 with 2001 viewssimmo

I honestly couldn't give a fck about players extra curricular activities (not including the obvious), as long as they also deliver on the pitch.

If you want to sit on the Goals on Sunday sofa, if you want to be on Talksport, if you want to start your own business supplying bespoke headphones or some shit, I don't care. As long as it doesn't affect your performances during games and you remember that when you are on a public forum you are also representing QPR as a club so need to not do anything to bring us into disrepute.

These guys are human, they are going to have other hobbies, interests away from football and that's absolutely fine. They all have careers and security to think of once they can't play anymore. If he wants to promote his own horse racing company through his PERSONAL Twitter account, then he is free to do so. If you don't like it, don't look for it.

Answer me this, if this was for a personal charity he was setting up and being passionate about instead of a horse racing business, would anybody be saying anything or giving him shit?

Very weird to criticise him for what is obviously a passion of his. As far as I can tell, there's nothing about horseracing that would stop him scoring goals in the Premier League. Players and managers have always liked it, anyway - fck, Alex Ferguson probably spent more time on race courses than at Old Trafford and that didn't work out too badly, did it?

I've got more of a problem with players not working hard at training, or not leaving it all out there on the pitch, which we could say about a fair few of our current squad. Austin is definitely not one of those.
