seeing the thread about the queen sort of reminded me of bentley motors, that very british establishment that appears with a full moustache, bowler hat, cucumber sandwiches, and says 'old chap' in every sentence. yet deep underneath, we all know that it is in fact owned by the germans, well volkswagen which may or may not be the same thing, just as deep down, so is her maj. ma'am. i mean, not owned by the germans, rather being one. and yes, the queen even uses a bentley as her daily transport. a ford escort not good enough for you? sorry.
anyways, over the years, i have been seriously criticised, and occasionally physically and verbally attacked for owning a big gas guzzling 7-seater suv (volvo xc90). and now having recently taken delivery of the new one, and my third one, i feel even more likely to defend their uses and capabilities.
that was until i saw the finally laid down specification for the new, market-topping bentley bentayga, (yeah, i can't really see anyone getting on with that name. might as well have just called it penisbollocks). and the looks. not to my taste. and certainly not at starting from 160,200 of your finest royal mint coins with her maj's fine profile on them. as if the porsche cayenne wasn't bad enough, they've come out with yet another troop carrier to add to the mercedes g-wagon.
you can just see all the football carparks littered and overflowing with these humungous monstrosities in all the colours of the rainbow. i hear john terry has already ordered one in european winter army green, with swastikas on his, so that he doesn't inadvertently get into the wrong one down cobham.
and they say we won the war ......
