Blue Peter was a regular part of my childhood viewing in the '60s. RIP to a decent sort.
Apparently John Noakes was the gooseberry of the program..."[Valerie] Singleton admitted in 2008 that she had conducted affairs with, among others, her co-presenter Peter Purves..."

John Noakes - where do you begin, hardly a schoolboy in Britain who didn't do a impersonation of him between '65 and '75. Always doing the edgy adventure stuff, while Purvis ponced around in the studio. Seems to have enjoyed life, its all you can ask for.

Just been reading, he was not as happy as we were on BP, said they treated him badly overworked and less pay than the others but I believe he was the favourite of the 3 VS PP
Damn you MrSheen. I-ve been trying to find a picture of Noakes spitting on somebody or doing something equally disgusting but there-s nothing. All I could find was him calling one of Blue Peters Editors a "stupid woman".
In all seriousness he definitely came across as one of the good guys and was definitely a break from the routine of childrens tv in those times. Sounds like he-d actually suffered alot in his later years.
