Being a bi polar sort of gadge on the spectrum , i was interested to hear Kens comments on Labour shadow defence minister Kevan Jones ....“I think he might need some psychiatric help. He’s obviously very depressed and disturbed. He should pop off and see his GP.”

Labour’s Shadow Mental Health spokesman says Ken’s comments should be treated “as seriously as racism“

Ken finally apologised last night after refusing point blank throughout the day on various tv and radio interviews.

having been described as 'defective','broken', 'nutter' etc etc myself for the best part of 30 years , i dont take any of this personally and hope this nonsense of being , "grossly offended" isnt an excuse to shut down debate about things like mental health .

Having said that, On balance I have to come down on the side of Kevan, if only because his parents were too f ucking thick to spell Kevin properly.I should also add that not only were his parents too f ucking thick but the registrar was obviously too f ucking thick to 'nudge' them towards the correct spelling.

I Think' manic depressive' was in old money uncle blob. i became Bi polar when manic became unfashionable, a bit like kipper ties.

best advice i was ever given??..."pull yourself together"

not to sure what the cry of anguish is at 1 min 11 of that video..perhaps it was Dianne abbott being told shes off to east germany again with Jeremy Corblimey on the back of his 2 stroke moped for her holidays.

Ken looks like he's had a few as well.

Perhaps there might not have been such a fuss if Livingston hadn't made some telling points about Trident. Our biggest threat comes terrorists and yet We are cutting funds to the police force. A nuclear deterrent didn't make any difference in Paris or in the London bombings. Didn't even figure in the Falklands. Spend the money on the police and a more specialised army.

Strong and stable my arse.

Well it's the things that the nuclear arsenal doesn't prompt which tells the story.
I used to walk my old Ridgeback cross Leo at my old place in Kent and people used to come up and say "what is he mate?"
"Ridgeback,they hunt lions"
"Don't see many lions around here mate"
"Shows how good he is then doesn't it"

Mate of mine worked for him when he was mayor. All business needed to be conducted by 11am before Kens 'lunch' meant things got a bit difficult.

Wonder if he had perhaps had 'lunch' before that interview yesterday.

The Corbyn experiment is going so well Dave feels safe buying himself a private jet.

It's always satisfying, in this climate of guarding what you say - lest it's deemed 'inappropriate', to see one of the authors of this madness hoisted on his own petard.

Cuddly Ken can fcuking do one, as far as I'm concerned.

I suffer from clinical depression, anxiety and am considered a high suicide risk. I know, i know, just who you want teaching your kids, but i think his comments are crass, ignorant and pretty fcuking unhelpful to the wider debate.

Tell you what, if i wasn't a borderline alcoholic, i'd be really pissed off.

Dic khead comments and I thought this was pretty poor:

"I grew up in South London where if someone's rude to you, you are rude back."

Just because you're working class/from South London, doesn't mean you can't rise above being a twa t if someone upsets you.

He sounded like a 5 year old on C4 news last night, arguing about who'd started it.

I dine out on an incident many years ago nerfing out a senior member of staff (I didn't even know who he was!) from a meeting room that I had booked (thems the rules). Besides, he has a huge office so why he needed the meeting room for him and just one other person was beyond me.

"I hear you've upset Joe Bloggs" I was told a day or so later.
"I just asked him to leave as there was a meeting for some 18 people about to take place as I had the room booked"
"He comes from a rough part of Glasgow y'know"
WTF???? "And I come from a rough part of the Ladbroke Grove/Portobello Road area of London but I don't go around behaving like a dick" I retorted.

Apparently the 'rules' got changed.... the room still had to be booked but Joe Bloggs had priority to use the room over any meeting already booked. Dick.

re your MI 5 Post mate....From today's ' Daily Politics'.Her face is magnificent in this.

Ive noticed this with a few left of the dial commentators, MP's. etc.. There so incredulous that someone outside of their tesseract of self indulgence and flaccid source material has a different opinion , They effect this' ive-never-been-so -insulted-in-all-my -life ' look on their boats. Or this Simple simon , patronising faux laughter, like there on teletubbies reading 'The gruffalow' to 5 year olds.

.All the while having a fierce look of determination on their faces like a middle aged divorcee, whose husband has left her for young minge , dancing to 'i will survive' round her handbag at the local meat market , when describing their trumpton /cambelwick green fiscal polices.

His whole unreserved apology and then still going on that he didn't start it was playground.

Being rude to someone that is rude to you is childish. Someone of Livingstone's standing and age should just have apologised via his social media and left it at that.

I suffer from depression and to be honest his comments didn't offend me but I can understand why the comments hurt Kevan Jones. They were spiteful and stupid. But, the fact that he has apologised should be enough now.

One thing it did show is that Corbin doesn't suffer fools though. He did stamp on it very quickly.

Problem is, as some of us know, mental health is often an invisible condition to others. They don't regard mental illness as illness and there in lies the problem.

Never knowingly right.

I see you've all fallen for it. Huge emotional reaction and self righteous bellowing about Ken Livingston loosing control of his gob and conveniently burying thing important stuff he had to say about Trident. It's useless and ineffective and only works on one level. To put money in Tory funding businessmens pockets. It won't mean a fcuk to IS when they plan their next atrocities.
Word from Paris say they are expecting a chemical/biological attack. Get in there Trident.

I remember seeing the duty psychiatrist for the first time. We went through a few details about how I felt and he asks about what I like doing etc. I said the usual things, friends, family, music, pubs and football. He says, 'Really? What team?'
'QPR', I reply.
He reaches over, calls his secretary and says 'Sandra, cancel my 1 o'clock'.

Yes, I have cheered up a bit. And I will now retrieve my coat.

What exactly has he said about Trident? All I can find is the row about his crass remarks.

I like Ken, always have, always will. There, I've said it.

But he was a tw at yesterday. We all have days we say things we later regret, right? And sometimes make a mess of trying to make amends? Well done Corbyn on telling his mate he was out of order.

And as johncharles points out...ridiculous that the row has so dwarfed the Trident debate that started it. Is mental health an important issue? Absolutely....and it's Corbyn who's put it near the top of the agenda...but the debate on where "the Trident budget" is best spent is equally well worth having.

Well that's the typical thing about insurance. You cancel the policy and more often than not your house burns down.
If you're going to whine about costing how about looking at foreign aid?The west has chucked over $400billion at the problem in the last ten years and nothing has been achieved save a few loony schemes and the odd golden palace thrown up for a despot's delight.

What a ridiculous comment. Foreign aid!! WTF. Foreign aid is pennies compared to the military. Pennies that are the best expenditures of any Western government. Foreign aid invested in meaningful development is the only way we are going to defeat the IS and Boko Harams of the world.

People will only buy into peace when they have a stake in society. When there is chronic persistent poverty, desperate people will do desperate things and chaos just breeds chaos. Foreign aid may not always be spent efficiently, but the standard of living for millions of people at the very poorest end of the spectrum have been improved immeasurably as a result of foreign aid. There are 54 countries in Africa, less than 10 of them have serious problems with war, chaos and terrorist organizations. Look at Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Botswana, etc. where child mortality rates have plummeted, democratic governance has begun to take root, and a middle class is flourishing. Look at the millions and millions of people whose lives are so much better because of foreign aid.

Also, while hunger and poverty make ripe breeding grounds for terrorist scum, many of the most prominent movements and leaders have of terrorism have come from countries that do not get foreign aid. Al-Quaida was born in Saudi Arabia, one of the richest countries in the world. The London bombers were from England -- the 6th largest economy in the world. Many of the terrorists that struck Paris last week were from France and Belgium.

If you want to defeat IS and Boko Harram you need to give people hope, give them a future, give them a reason to support the state. Eliminate the breeding grounds for extremism and you will just have some loony whackos shouting in their own echo chambers. When people buy-into society, they will stop acting anti-social. Its just obvious.

An obvious compromise on the Trident issue is to maintain a nuclear deterrent that is one tenth the size of the current program. We only need a handful of warheads to maintain the deterrent effect. Anything more than that is just jingoistic ego.
