Selling/releasing players in this transfer window 23:02 - Jan 10 with 265 viewsBromleyHoop

With all the excitement and anticipation regarding new players coming to the Club will Phillip Beard and Mark Hughes have the time to actually clear some players out. We just can't keep adding to the squad every transfer window.

I believe that there are quite a few players out of contract at the end of the season but shirley we can get rid of some of the dead wood sooner rather than later.

Kieron Dyer for starters.
Ramage to Palace for a small fee?
Borrowdale to Barnet for a miniscule fee?
etc etc

Those who are out of contract in the Summer will be free to find another club. If Hughes tells about a dozen that they won't be getting another deal, they might choose to forego the higher wages at QPR for the chance to get another club ahead of the usual end of season clearout, which usually leaves 2 players scrapping over every vacancy.

It might be possible to pick up small fees for Ramage, Balanta, Agyemang, Ephraim but you'd probably have to pay the buying clubs to take Dyer, Hulse and Vine.

Unless the clubs settle up unwanted players' contracts, it's tricky to see how they can get some of them off the books until the summer. That's likely when we'll see a major clearing of the decks with some of the players.

I can't see those who have played very little football or suffered serious injuries and are towards the back end of their careers waiving their contracts until then. Kieran Dyer was the only one who had some kind of break clause if it didn't work out, which it hasn't, but perhaps they've already passed the point that they can do anything about it based on Neil Warnock's actions and intent to let him stay.

It's all about the salaries as well, clubs are not likely to want to pay any fees, unless we cut them a very good deal. Leon Clarke is a prime example of that, where we probably settled or made some kind of contribution to help the deal go through when he joined Swindon.
