Thought he seemed a bit timid a few times in the first half. Was reluctant to fly in on tackles and 50/50 balls etc. Which is prob fair enough as he's no doubt been told to calm himself down. Not to say he played at all poorly in the first half. Just a little more restrained than usual! Then in the 2nd he was flying out of the blocks and very effective. That marauding run of his where he crossed in deserved a goal. |  | | |

Agree, also don't think playing a defensive midfielder suits him, it cramps his natural style of play.
He's much better going forward on his runs, when his defensive role is a lot less. |  | | |

some one lost the ball early 2nd half near halfay line and he flew in and JUST got the ball ,those wild tackles are still there and once booked most of us around me wanted him taken off

Think it was a bit dismissive by Neville on commentary.
Diakite held back from trying to win impossible tackles like he did against West Ham and was much improved for it. He was neat and tidy with the ball, covered the full-backs brilliantly when they both looked to overlap.
I thought he had a great game, he didn't dive in to tackles but stood them up and held his position allowing the likes of Granero and Taarabt to play in front of him and not to expose his defense.
The foul (and subsequent yellow card) that Diakite committed was when Everton were breaking in numbers so it was completely necessary, it wasn't rash or reckless. It was the sort of foul that most would have applauded if it was made by a Busquets, Gattuso or Alonso | | | |
