LFW Pundit Andy Hillman casts his eye over the Third Round coupon and attempts to pick winners on what is notoriously the worst weekend of the year for the football punter.

Andy Hillman

So, apparently we won a game this week. I haven’t been paying attention really. One of the few games I’ve missed in recent times, I decided to forego Chelsea away due to the exorbitant cost and spend the money on West Ham away instead. Always the way. You’ll all be delighted to know that in the aftermath of the match Clive text me on numerous occasions, to tell me that they’ve held an Italian restaurant to ransom and are forcing them to stay open AND go out and restock the fridge, and that Neil has footage of him crying on film.

It’s the ‘magic of the FA cup 3rd round’, or ‘gamblers ruin’ as those in betting circles like to call it. Personally, I’d stay well clear of almost every game in the early stages of the FA Cup, as you have no idea what strength team the big boys will put out, and consequently the odds are difficult to judge. If you HAVE to bet on the football this week, have a look at the following:

QPR vs West Brom - Draw @ 5/2

So, do QPR go full strength in order to win an FA Cup game (ha!) and build much needed momentum, or rest key players in case (heaven forbid!) Tarrabt and co. get injured? Either way, the match will be drawn, as this is the absolute worst case scenario for us.

Brighton vs Newcastle - Brighton @ 7/4 Newcastle are absolutely awful at the moment, lost nine out of 11 (obviously we were one of the other two...) Brighton are good at home, especially in the cup, and knocked Newcastle out last year. Mike Williamson has conceded an own goal in each of his last two FA cup games, both resulting in defeats. See if you can find odds on him making it three!

Cheltenham vs Everton - Both teams to score & Everton win @ 9/4

It may be high flying Everton vs League 2 Cheltenham, but both teams have scored in Everton’s last SEVENTEEN games, and Cheltenham are very strong at home. 9/4 looks absolutely massive.
