The Forgotten Final

The Forgotten Final

Tonight we play Wrexham in the FAW Cup Final at the Racecourse. With the other Final being played at the Millennium on Sunday, the game tonight has faded into the background, with very little being posted on the web sites, or indeed, printed in the newspapers.

When you compare the game with the final last year it really does show the extremes. This season the game is hidden away at the end of March, where last season saw an end of season game, providing the last ever at the Vetch. Same clubs involved with the same prize money at stake, but at this point in the season both clubs have their eyes well and truly set on greater things. Wrexham are pushing for a play-off place in League 2 while we look to Sunday and Carlisle, as well as looking to maintain our push in League 1.

On the 11th May 2005, the Swans won 2-1 with Andy Robinson scoring the last ever goal at the Vetch.

The team that night was.

Gueret

Tate

Iriekpen

Austin

Anderson

Britton

O'Leary

Martinez

Forbes

Connor

Trundle

Subs: Murphy, Gurney, Robinson, Bond and Thorpe.

Will we put out such a strong team this time?

Out of the starting line up, Anderson and Connor have left the club. Iriekpen is out for the season and Austin returning from injury. Of the subs Gurney has gone and Thorpe on loan but won't return at the end of the season. The team tonight won't be our strongest, it's bound the be made up of squad players and players needing to achieve match fitness.

A crowd of over 9,000 was there that night, obviously boosted by the 'Vetch' affect, but will the gate tonight get beyond 4,000?

Last year a party atmosphere. This year?
