Legg Predicts Cardiff City Victory In Derby

Former Swansea and Cardiff man Andy Legg has predicted a Cardiff City victory in next week's Welsh derby at Ninian

The two sides will go head to head next Sunday with Welsh bragging rights once again at stake.  It will be the third derby meeting of the season - the Swans won the first in the Carling Cup and honours were shared in a 2-2 draw at the Liberty back in November.

But this time it will be different as Cardiff take home advantage and therefore the greater supporter numbers for the game - a factor that Legg thinks will play a big part in the outcome of the game.

Speaking to Wales on Sunday, Legg said “As it’s the last derby match at Ninian that really will add spice to the occasion

“Both clubs are going really well, but I believe Cardiff will win it.

“Swansea will find the atmosphere intimidating. They will be up against the fans – and they are a factor.

“The Swans have had a tremendous season, but Cardiff are the side best equipped to go into the Premier League right now.

“I’ll be there and it will be a massive occasion, I’m not far off with my start of season predictions. Both Swansea and Cardiff have had outstanding seasons. The two managers, Roberto Martinez and Dave Jones, deserve a lot of credit.

“Neither have had real money to spend and yet they have built squads full of quality.

“They (Cardiff) still aren’t completely out of the running for a top-two finish. There are some huge fixtures to come – including Cardiff v Swansea, Birmingham v Wolves and Bristol City v Preston North End next weekend.

“Swansea, too, have done a great job. They also can still qualify for the play-offs if they can put a winning run together.

“Swansea will still have done well if they finish in the top half of the Championship table, which looks certain.

“Then they will have to prepare for a tough second season at Championship level. That won’t be easy because the second season is always difficult.

“Championship football is a tough old division. It’s so difficult to get out of and Cardiff have discovered that since they were promoted.

“But Swansea are building steadily towards strengthening their case.”
