Swansea City captain Garry Monk thinks the squad have to prove themselves all over again after the arrival of Paulo Sousa.

Meeting up with his new boss today, Monk was left impressed by the vision of the two time champions league winner and is looking forward to learning from the Portuguese tactician, he told the clubs official site, “I was very impressed with what he had to say and I can't wait to get started. As a player he has achieved virtually everything in the game and I'm sure, like me, the boys will be looking forward to sharing his vast knowledge.”

"He came across as very professional and knows exactly what he wants to do. You can only learn from people like that,I don't think he wants to change a great deal because he has the same philosophy on how the game should be played. “

With changes both to the playing staff and back room staff inevitable in the next few weeks it will certainly be a steep learning curve for everyone concerned, as the former Southampton man alluded too, "He is certainly going to tweak things here and there and I'm sure over the next few weeks we will see his own methods coming through to improve us all as players. I think all the players have been watching the managerial developments at the club with interest over the summer, especially trying to catch up with all the news while on holiday abroad.”

"But we are professionals and we know we've got to prove ourselves (to the manager) all over again. That's what all the boys will be thinking, whether they've been regulars in the side in the past or not.”

"Swansea City has been a big part of my life for the last five years - and I'll be fighting to keep it that way for some time to come.''

The rest of the squad will convene for pre season training tomorrow with one to one meetings between playing staff and Sousa due to take place in the next few days.
